PAGE: HOW WOULD YOU COMMENT ON THE TRADE RELATIONS BETWEEN INDIA AND PAKISTAN?

S. M. MUNEER: Trade between India and Pakistan is at the lowest level and after the visit of our federal commerce minister, Amin Faheem, to India-I was part of this delegation-I feel that Indian side is fully ready to open full business and trade with Pakistan and I think after 01/01/2012, India Pakistan business will increase manifold and I expect within next 3 to 4 years Pakistan official trade with India will be more than US$6 billion.

As of today official export to India is US $400 million and imports US$ 2.5 billion. Non-official trade between both countries through Dubai and Singapore is more than 400 million dollars.

PAGE: YOUR VIEWS ABOUT SOUTH ASIA FREE TRADE AGREEMENT.

S. M. MUNEER: south Asia free trade agreement is very important and this will also help increase our business activity.

PAGE: INDIA HAS INDICATED THAT IT WOULD FINALLY REMOVE ITS OBJECTION TO THE EUROPEAN UNION'S PLAN TO GRANT PAKISTAN CERTAIN TRADE CONCESSIONS TO HELP IT RECOVER FROM THE 2010 FLOODS. YOUR VIEWS.

S. M. MUNEER: Indian commerce minister has agreed in my presence that India would fully remove its objection in the European Union.

PAGE: PAKISTAN HAS YET TO GRANT MOST FAVORED NATION (MFN) STATUS TO INDIA TO BRING IT ON PAR WITH OTHER TRADING PARTNERS, AS ENCOURAGED BY THE WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION. INDIA, ON THE OTHER HAND, HAS YET TO REMOVE NON-TARIFF BARRIERS SUCH AS VISA RESTRICTIONS, SECURITY CLEARANCES, AND STRINGENT CERTIFICATION RULES. YOUR COMMENTS.

S. M. MUNEER: Ministry of commerce and FPCCI have agreed to grant MFN status to India and government of Pakistan has also circulated this information to the business community of Pakistan to find out if there is any objection.

PAGE: GIVE YOUR VIEWS ON EFFORTS OF GOVERNMENT FOR THE PROMOTION OF PAK-INDIA TRADE.

S. M. MUNEER: During a meeting in New Delhi between the two commerce ministers, it was agreed that bona fide businesspersons of both the countries will get multiple visa for one year for the whole country without any police registration whereas we are at present getting visa only for 3 to 4 cities. The Indian side also agreed to reduce non-trade-barriers. This will also help increase business.

I wish to appreciate efforts of our commerce minister Amin Faheem, and in particular secretary commerce Zafar Mahmood. Both are doing their best to increase business between India and Pakistan.
