Etihad Airways was formally established by royal decree in July 2003 by His Highness Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE - six years later the World Travel Awards (WTA) has awarded the accolade of the World's Leading Airline by more than 180,000 travel industry professionals from over 175 countries. Currently Etihad offers flights to 55 destinations in the Middle East, Europe, North America, Africa, Asia and Australia.

The World Travel Awards recognise the very best airline, hospitality and tourism brands in the world, with industry experts vetting nominations for their customer relations, creativity, quality of service, product innovation and business acumen. Etihad, the first Middle Eastern airline to win this prestigious award, was recognised for the excellence of its onboard product, luxurious airport lounges and strong service ethic during a period of phenomenal growth. In addition to being named World's Leading Airline, Etihad also picked up the award for Leading First Class for the second year in a row.

Etihad Airways provides a luxurious persona throughout their aircrafts - the Diamond First Class, the Pearl Business Class and the Coral Economy Class. The Diamond First Class Guests enjoy the complete extent of Etihad's Inspired Service; a whole range of state-of-art luxuries provided by Etihad throughout a guests' experience with them - in-flight and on-ground.

Keeping guest comfort in mind - Etihad Airways has recently introduced their new Diamond First Class suite. This is a state-of-the art innovation of Etihad keeping in line with the Etihad Inspired Services, a series of premium on-ground and in-flight products and services offered to their guests - especially the ones traveling in their front cabins recently. Inspired service means that customer's needs is at the heart of the business; and especially the ones travelling long haul from Pakistan to destinations in Europe and North America a more than 8-hours long and exhausting journey. This new suite is available on the London route and is being rolled-out to Australia, Europe, the USA and the rest of Etihad's three-class fleet next year.

However now Etihad is also focusing on Advanced Business and Economy Class seats and a leading edge in-flight entertainment system are due on board by the end of the year and a new service style in Economy Class is being rolled out progressively on all Etihad routes. The new economy service is an extension of the inspired service philosophy already embedded in Etihad's premium cabins. It delivers a level of personal attention and touches of luxury that will make the economy travel experience the best in the sky.

Etihad's most recent accomplishment is the launch of the Chicago flights which were inaugurated on 2nd September along with a codeshare agreement between Etihad Airways and American Airlines which offers many other US cities to Etihad passengers. The Chicago launch was celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm throughout the Etihad network but for Pakistan the importance of the direct Chicago flights is the most due to the city being one of the main Pakistani communities in the US. Starting of 2009 Etihad was operating to 48 destinations but the close of this year will see 57 destinations on the Etihad network with a lot more to come in 2010.

Etihad has won various awards since its inception but the title of being the Leading Airline of the World by the aviation industry's most prestigious awards is a great honour for Etihad. For a young airline, Etihad has continued to prosper not only in the number of destinations but also the quality and range of services offered by the airline. From on-ground facilities such as the premium lounges at their home base of Abu Dhabi and now at Frankfurt and London Heathrow Terminal 4, the Etihad chauffer service, the Dubai city check-in facility to the dynamic services offered in-flight - Etihad has come a long way in a very short time.
