Despite having an ocean of knowledge and wisdom, Dr. Zafarullah is a cool and composed man who never displays his knowledge. It will not out of place to mention that knowledge speaks itself even if one is silent and that is true in the case of Dr. Zafarullah.
Interviewing Dr. Zafarullah in his office at Bahahuddin Zakariya University was a pleasant experience. He economizes words when he speaks but speaks to the point and says a lot in few words. He says that education is the only way to get the nation out of social, political and economic crises.
The time calls for serious efforts for increasing the true literacy rate and equipping everyone with the strength of knowledge. Almighty Allah has bestowed enormous natural resources to this country. The only thing needed is the capacity to capitalize on those resources, he said. Comparatively speaking though Bahauddin Zakariya University is not within the mainstream yet it is contributing to the best of its capacity for the cause of education. He was quite happy to share that his university has set up campuses in far flung areas like Lahiya, DG, Khan etc. where the response of the people is amazing. People have been attracted overwhelmingly to our campuses and the day will come when the students from these areas will provide leaderships in various segments of the economy and social sectors, he believes.
Dr Zafarullah who did his PhD from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in marketing and did his MBAs from University of Edinburgh UK and Institute of Business Administration, University of Karachi. He assumed the office of the Vice Chancellor of Bahauddin Zakariya University in 2007. He also worked on project management control as senior consultant for an irrigation network constructed near Baghdad, Iraq in collaboration with SEMA of Paris, an international Management Consultant Group. Introduction of BBA, MBA (Executive) programs besides introducing programs of Psychology and Sociology also goes to his credit in the university. Actually it requires plenty of pages to accommodate his achievements in the field of education.
In fact he played a key role in developing Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, into a center of excellence which has attained an outstanding stature among the contemporary institutions as the fastest growing public university in the country.
Apart from its fascinating environment, lush green lawns all around the main campus, impressive faculties and well disciplined students, the university is located some 10 km off from the main city of Multan. It is doing something more inspiring by spreading the light of knowledge in the remote and far off places through its remote area campuses which deserve appreciation from the society as well as the government.

The department of Mass Communication has a hi-tech TV studio and FM radio, which looked even better than many commercialized studios and channels.
The students are getting on job training in the department which in fact would provide them tremendous support when they would go into profession or practical life.
Bahauddin Zakariya University offers a wide range of educational packages which include masters degrees in almost all social sciences subjects, MBA, MCS, M.Phil and Ph.D. In fact, the university has taken a lead while introducing 4-year undergraduate programs in science, commerce, business administration, pharmacy, engineering and English literature and linguistics. It may be noted that in order to promote activities in the field of art and culture the university set up Multan College of Arts in 2003.
Since the textile industry being the mainstay of the economy, the university endeavored to develop teams of the students for providing a lead in the textile sector. For this purpose the university set up a university college of textile engineering in 2004 besides establishing two sub-campuses at Sahiwal and DG Khan to provide education facility at the doorstep of the people as part of the policy of the government. Since there is no restriction on admission of the students from any province of the country the university provides opportunity for learning to the students from all corners of the country. On the back of extremely conducive environment for education and the way the university is growing in all faculties the day is not far away when this center of excellence would become the first choice of the students even from the developed cities like Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
