Since 1989, the total amount invested by P&G Pakistan in assets, working capital, and market development is approximately $100 million. In addition, P&G contributed Rs 5.4 billion to the national exchequer in the form of taxes and duties in 08/09, increasing 26 percent over the previous year. In 1994, P&G acquired a soap-manufacturing facility sprawling over 7 acres of land at Hub, Balochistan. In 2002, the plant tripled its soap manufacturing capacity with an investment of $ 3 million. Furthering its commitment to strengthen presence in Pakistan, an initial investment of about half a million US dollars was made to establish a manufacturing facility with a production capacity of 50 million sachets of the water purifier annually.

The P&G Hub Plant in Pakistan is the only plant that produces PuR and supplies it globally, to date having provided over a billion liters of clean drinking water to countries in need. Today, P&G's Hub Plant is equipped with state-of-the-art manufacturing technology and quality assurance processes and systems reflecting the company's values of safe, hygienic, and ethical manufacturing practices.

P&G has recently announced an investment of approximately US$100 million in its second manufacturing facility at Port Qasim Authority, a green field project comprising of two manufacturing facilities, a laundry detergent and a diaper manufacturing facility. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in December last year and since then construction work on this state-of-the-art-plant has proceeded at a good pace. Being P&G's single largest investment to date in the country, this investment symbolizes the company's confidence that Pakistan will continue to provide a stable and conducive business environment over the long-term reaffirming P&G's commitment to serve the consumers of Pakistan. The current plant will occupy one-third of the 25 acres of the land acquired thereby allowing for a provision for future expansion projects and other plants to serve the domestic market with the full portfolio of P&G products.

P&G strongly believes in safeguarding the health and safety of its employees and workers. P&G plants operate in line with established global best in class standards and benchmarks. In accordance with these health and safety benchmarks, P&G plant at PQA has so far achieved more than 450,000 safe construction hours without recordable injury. This achievement has been in a period of straight 12 months since the start of plant construction. This result reflects the tremendous efforts by the project team and its construction contractor as well as the efficient leverage of P&G Global Construction safety experts and advisories.

The P&G PQA plant will contribute significantly towards the socio-economic growth of the country. Overall investment in the manufacturing facility will bring about a foreign direct investment of approximately $ 100 million in the manufacturing sector. These plants will realize a handsome incremental revenue stream for the Government of Pakistan in the form of taxes and duties. Moreover, the plant will bring about considerable savings in foreign exchange, a much-needed relief for the country by realizing import substitution. The plant will result in significant local value addition and create a handsome potential business opportunity through extensive development of the local supplier base. About 7,000 employment opportunities will be generated for Pakistanis directly or indirectly through contractual and distribution networks. Given that this plant will be producing P&G brands based on the highest quality standards, consistent with P&G plants across the Globe, the plants have a strong export potential. Last but not the least, the success of this plant will help in improving Pakistan's risk profile and give a powerful signal to the international community and an example for other multi-nationals to follow.

The plant design and construction are progressing well towards a start of the laundry detergent plant aimed for mid of 2010 followed by the diaper plant. The new Pakistan manufacturing site is an important milestone of P&G's commitment to improve the lives of Pakistani consumers now and for generations to come.
