Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that the project of Signal Free Corridor-III will be opened for traffic by mid August after which the pressure of traffic on Sharae Faisal and M.A Jinnah Road would be reduced considerably.

He expressed these views after the inauguration of Pakistan's first ever Car Parking Plaza in Saddar on Thursday. He was on a visit to Shahra-e-Quaideen with Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan and DCO Karachi Javed Hanif.

The Governor on this occasion inspected the site of the development work for construction of a flyover and underpass at the Shahra-e-Quaideen.

Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal informed the Governor about the construction of flyover and underpass at this busy junction of Shahra-e-Quaideen. He said that both these projects are part of corridor-III and city government is completing them as soon as possible.

He further said that other projects on this corridor are also heading towards completion as 90 percent of work on Preedy Street has been completed while 80 percent work on Jail Chowrangi Flyover is finished and the construction of elevated U turn at Nipa Chowrangi, Abul Hasan Ispahani road, Shamama Shopping Mall and Jauhar Chowrangi too entered into final stages of completion.

Governor of Sindh while reviewing the development work on projects of corridor-III said that it would provide further convenience to citizens in their daily lives and would prove another milestone in the history of Karachi.


Pakistan's first ever car parking plaza has been opened for public which is vitally important to accommodate the growing traffic volume in Saddar the Heart of Karachi.

Elaborating the importance of Parking Plaza, City Nazim while inaugurating the parking plaza said that the city government has made a plan under which the busy area of Saddar would be made pedestrian area on gradual basis.

Nazim Karachi said that with the completion of this project and development work around the parking plaza, the area of Saddar is now presenting a new and refreshing look. He said that after the completion of corridor-III the motorists would have 18km signal free journey from Saddar to Safoora Goth Malir and even further 10km to Toll Plaza at Superhighway.

He said that city government has also planned to construct a three to four level underground vehicle parking area at Jahangir Park in Saddar while the Park would be retained above this facility. With this project no one would be able to establish encroachments at Jahangir Park. He also appealed to those people who had tried to get stay order from court regarding this project to allow city government going on with its plan otherwise the area of Jahangir Park would be heavily encroached upon by land grabbers in next few years.

Giving details of the project EDO Iftikhar Qaimkhani told that work on the construction of Parking Plaza was started in 2006 after City Nazim felt the need of proper traffic management in Saddar area after which the project had been completed with a cost of Rs650milion. He said that the Parking Plaza has been made fully computerized. Surveillance video cameras have been installed at all major locations and the building is also equipped with heavy elevator and stand by generator.

He also informed that the project was in accordance with the conditions laid down in the Karachi Master Plan. After the inauguration ceremony Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan along with Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal inspected the projects of Signal Free corridor-III.


Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan has said that the devolution of power under present local bodies system had resulted in record development activities in Karachi during last four years.

The world had acknowledged the importance of Karachi with the completion of many mega projects including the construction of roads, flyovers, underpasses and bridges.

He was addressing at the ceremony of City Thinkers Awards held at Arts Council of Pakistan by Journalists Forum to acknowledge the performance of Syed Mustafa Kamal in last four years. City Nazim was awarded gold medal and souvenir in the ceremony.

The Governor on this occasion paid tribute to City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal for setting up the best example of good governance, excellent administration in the country.

He said that the effects of this hard work had been directly reached to common people and they availed exemplary facilities in their daily lives.

Speaking on this occasion Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal said that the impartial service to people was the philosophy of Quaid-e-Tehreek Altaf Hussain and we had only used it in our works. He also thanked Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan for supporting and patronizing him at every step.

He said that the progress of Pakistan was linked with the progress of Karachi and the development process here must continue in future.

The ceremony was also addressed by the president of Karachi Press Club Imtiaz Faran, senior journalist Agha Masood Hussain, chairman of journalist's forum Munir Sultan and others. Town Nazim Saddar Muhammad Dilawar, Town Nazim Orangi Town Abdul Haque and Babar Mirza Chughtai were also among the personalities who received best performance award in the ceremony.
