AGRO FOOD PRODUCTS OF PAKISTAN

June 15 - 21, 2009

INTRODUCTION

Agro Food is one of the priority areas for the further development in agriculture sector, not only because the demand for fresh produce both in domestic and international markets is increasing, but also it offers high returns, maximum value addition, and multiple job opportunities.

In Agro Food sector government has declared horticulture as one of the priority areas of Agriculture sector. According to Ministry of Food, Agriculture & Livestock (MINFAL) currently, the total area under Agro Food crops is about 1.51 million hectares, with fruits and vegetables sharing almost 59% and 41% respectively during 2006-07.

PRODUCTION AND POST HARVEST MANAGEMENT

PRODUCTION

Three main aspects of production challenges faced by Agro Food Sector are very important. These aspects are namely large yield gap, high post harvest losses, and export price gap.
