University computing network comprises more than 375 nodes providing multiple computing environment and running latest softwares on contemporary servers. Research facilities are available for Artificial Intelligence. Robotics and Digital Signal Processing Unlimited internet facility is available to all students of the university. All students maintain their individual accounts that ensure security.

INFRASTRUCTURE

IQRA University campuses are custom-built to address the needs of modern and diverse student body. Three campuses are located in Karachi, one in Islamabad, one in Peshawar, and one in Quetta. Karachi's campus being the pioneer in many aspects has also begun offering the corporate services, where training and development needs of the corporate sector are analyzed and corporate training programmes offered in the Executive Development Centre.

IQRA University is one of the first private universities that established its Gulshan Campus on Feb 12, 2001. Similarly, the Clifton Campus is yet another milestone in IQRA University's long list of successes. Islamabad campus provides students with an ideal environment to study in the capital city. The Peshawar Campus of IQRA is the pioneer of IT education in NWFP, and remains to this day the principal institution extending IT expertise in the province. IQRA University Quetta campus aims to provide the best possible IT and Business education in Baluchistan as it has long been ignored by the public and the private sectors alike. IQRA Quetta campus, with the support of the Baluchistan government, has taken the initiative to impart quality education to the people of the province.

DEFICIENCIES IN THE HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM

Good quality, merit-oriented, equitable, and efficient higher education is the most crucial instrument for translating the dream of a knowledge based economy into reality. Currently, the higher education system in Pakistan does not perform well. Only 3.7% of the 18 to 23 age population has access to higher education. Even though enrolment in both public and private institutions is increasing rapidly at approximately 30% per year, the gross enrolment ratio does not compare well with its competitors, such as India (7%) and Malaysia (12%). There are deficiencies in the quality of both skills and research outputs in the sector.

Few of Pakistan's public sector universities are ranked among the world's top 500 universities. The number of faculty members having PhD degrees is low at 25%. The rates of under graduation are also low and international recognition of qualifications limited. Although in Pakistan the per capita expenditure per student in higher education is many times higher than in the secondary sector, the sector used to be poorly funded for appropriate infrastructure building including libraries, laboratories, scientific equipment, teaching aids, and high speed internet connection.

Another reason of inadequate quality comes from the lack of specialization among universities as public universities compete in offering the widest variety of disciplines and spread their scarce resources too thinly. They are not selective in specialising in a few areas to develop the requisite critical mass of resources required for achieving higher quality. Universities in the private sector, on the other hand, have tended to specialise in market-oriented disciplines like IT, Management Sciences and Business, but there are complaints about their quality of education. The scale, quality and institutional arrangements of the sector are insufficient to support innovation in the economy or attract high flows of foreign capital. The R&D capacity is very limited and there is dearth of culture and few institutional arrangements to achieve knowledge transmission to the productive sector through university-industry partnerships.

The higher education institutions must accord high priority to ensuring the quality of services and quality of outcomes. Internal quality assurance processes of higher education institutions must be strengthened to conform to the international standards of quality assurance. IQRA University has got the services of large number of PHDs, as compared to other business institutes in Pakistan. They are experienced and producing knowledgeable graduates.
