Pakarab Fertilizers Ltd started its commercial production in 1978. The project was established with the collaboration of Governments of Pakistan and Abu Dhabi. The plant produces three types of fertilizers namely Urea, Calcium Ammonium Nitrate and Nitro Phosphate. PFL is producing around 350, 000 tons of Calcium Ammonium Nitrate, 350,000 tons of Nitrophos and 120,000 of Urea per annum.

The Consortium of Fatima Group and Arif Habib Group took control of the plant after privatization in June 2005. The new management gave high priority to make Pakarab an environment friendly plant in the shortest possible time, even before starting studies on capacity enhancement projects. Fatima Group and Arif Habib Group Consortium is proud to be pioneer in setting up first ever CDM project in Paksitan.

The achieve this most important objective, the new management initiated a project of over 1.5 billion rupees with the collaboration of world fame Japanese company Mitsubishi Corporation. Fatima Group and Arif Habib Group Consortium is proud to be pioneer in setting up first ever CDM project in Pakistan that is also only second in the fertilizers plants around the world. By the Grace of Allah Almighty, the project has been completed in short period of one year. The humongous task is competed due to high degree of professional skills and dedicated efforts of Pakarab and Mitsubishi engineers and technicians. The CDM project has been started successfully on trial basis. Its commercial startup will begin after completing trial run shortly.

The CDM project of Pakarab will control Nitric Oxide gas (N2O) emissions to the environment. This will end long awaited moment of emission free environment around Pakarab plant and will help make the environment friendly for the people living inside and around plant site.

PFL selected special product line in chemical fertilizers, such as nitrate based and chemically granulated nitrogen products. Products and other details are given below.

* Nitrophos: - 22% Nitrogen & 20% Phosphorus: It is unique combination of phosphorus and nitrogen, having balance proportion of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P). It provides synergetic effect in terms of efficiency. It is only compound fertilizer that contains nitrate type of nitrogen. It is unique in shape and no body can adulterate it with any other material. It is equally good for application at the time of sowing or after sowing. It is the best source of early stage nutrient supplement in case of vegetables and transplanted crops. Its chemical reaction is acidic having pH 3.5. This gives an other edge over other basal fertilizers. Pakistanís most of soils are alkaline in reaction and NPís acidic reaction makes it more favorable for plant to recover nutrients from soils. It is equally good for manual or mechanical application.

* Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN):- 26% Nitrogen It is the only nitrogenous fertilizer having synergetic combination of nitrate and ammonical type of nitrogen. This makes it superior over urea. Its nitrate portion starts working right after irrigation and ammonical source works later on. Its N is not lost thru volitization or leaching as other fertilizers, e.g. N loss in urea up to 50%. It also works well in conditions when soil has very low moisture when no other nitrogenous fertilizer can be applied. It can be used when there is good dew on soil surface in winter. It is neutral in pH (7.00) hence farmers can use it with liberty at any stage of crop. It is safe and has no phytotoxic effect on plant. It is free flowing and can be applied mechanically or manually. It is technically proven to be the best source of nitrogen supplement to the crops in case of saline and water logged (salt effected soils and water logged soils). It works for longer period than other sources, means it is more in term of lasting effects. It is free from adulteration. It contains 2% SOP, an ideal source of potassium and sulfur supplement. This is also the best fertilizer for fertigation (application after dissolving it in irrigation water).

* Customer profile: -Both products are mainly used by small to medium farmers. Mostly customers are practicing farmers and have close eye on performance of different inputs. These customers are hard worker, low income group, have average excess to the resources and accessories of life. He is mainly self contended in term of his hopes and wishes. Stable customer group with strong perception and does not switch over the products frequently. He has limited education and has adopted our products based on his own experience or experience of his senior family members or fellow farmers.

Company Business Plans: -PFL established marketing network after privatization. In a short period, a very effective and efficient network of dealers and distribution is established. It is now considered as one the most effective network in the fertilizer industry of Pakistan. PFL is committed to improve Product Quality thru continuous improvement process. Some major steps toward product improvement have taken. Now PFL urea is free from fines and its PQ is equally good like any other prilled urea. Similarly serious efforts have been taken to make CAN PQ more consistent and stable. Fatima Group is planning to produce granulated CAN, NP and urea at Fatima Fertilizer plant. This product will then become the best PQ products in the market. With the commercial production of Fatima Fertilizer in 2009, the Group will become 2nd largest fertilizer manufacturing and marketing group in the fertilizer industry of Pakistan.

Pakarab Biological Pest Control program: - Pakarab Fertilizers Ltd. has established a Biological Laboratory at Sanawan, Kot Addu. This is the first biological lab of its kind in the fertilizer world. This is to improve environment and quality of agricultural produce resulting in better living environment of farmers and increased income per acre. In this process, insect predators (Trichogramma and Chrysoperla carnea) are mass multiplied in the laboratory and are then supplied to the growers for release in the field. Trichogramma is an egg parasitoid which destroys the eggs of sugarcane borers, maize and sorghum borers, getable pests and different moths. Chrysopa is a predator and prays on many insects like sugarcane Pyrilla, Thrips, Aphids and White Fly in cotton. These predators can be used in sugarcane, cotton, maize, sorghum and citrus. Again the effort aims at the reduction in pesticide use control insects biologically and minimize environmental pollution. This method of insect control is cost effective, easy and environment friendly.
