Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. - the management company of Karachi Sheraton Hotel & Towers - is one of the leading hotel and leisure companies in the world. It is a hospitality ownership, management, and franchise organization based in White Plains, New York. The company owns, operates, franchises and manages hospitality properties under its eight owned brands. As of November 25, 2005 the firm owned, managed, or franchised more than 850 hotels in over 95 countries with 145,000 employees and about 232,000 rooms worldwide.

Starwood properties include Sheraton, Four Points by Sheraton, St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Le Méridien, W Hotels, and Westin. Sheraton Hotels and Resorts is Starwood Hotels & Resorts' largest and second oldest brand (Westin being the oldest). Sheraton began in 1937 when two entrepreneurs, Ernest Henderson and Robert Moore, acquired the Stonehaven Hotel in Springfield, Massachusetts. They soon expanded their holdings to include properties from across the United States. In 1945, it was the first hotel chain to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Sheraton expanded internationally in 1949 with the purchase of two Canadian hotel chains. The 1960s saw the first Sheraton hotels in Latin America and the Middle East. In 1965, Sheraton opened its 100th hotel. In 1966, the company opened its first international hotel in Kuwait. The multinational conglomerate ITT purchased the chain in 1968, after which it was known as ITT Sheraton. In 1998, Sheraton and its sister brands Four Points by Sheraton, St. Regis, and The Luxury Collection were acquired by Starwood.

The Karachi Sheraton Hotel & Towers is the only internationally managed five-star hotel in Pakistan. It is 17 kilometers from Quaid-e-Azam International Airport. Karachi Sheraton Hotel & Towers came into being on July 17, 1982 and since then has proved its mettle across the country. It has the honor of hosting not only foreigners but royalty and heads of state, tycoons and captains of industry, some of the most famous names in sports and show business, diplomats and businessmen. Many large scale exhibitions, international conferences, weddings, social events have also find their happenings with Sheraton in view of being progressive in every side of this industry. Due to the commitment of the hotel network, many employees have found themselves completely loyal towards their work and completed successfully many years in this hospitality business.

In a developing country like Pakistan, hotels have a special responsibility to promote tourism, trade, culture & most importantly community service. In the last 25 years with the help of its stakeholders the hotel has been actively trying to give back to the local community. Supporting the internationally coordinated UNICEF "Check Out for Children" program in Pakistan and patronizing credible causes with the assistance of renowned NGOs like the Sada Welfare Foundation, Dar-Ul-Sukun, the National Institute of Child Health (NICVD) & Edhi Centre Foundation, Karachi, are a few such initiatives.

In order to work in accordance with the international standards, the Karachi Sheraton Hotel & Towers has been continually financing constant refurbishments & improvements on the property like the multi-million-dollar refurbishment of the Darbar Hall, the completion of state-of-the-art Health Club & the tastefully done ambience of the "Towers Floor". Like ballroom the Towers Floor too is done by the North American company Hirsch Blender Associates - a renowned name in home & office design. All these initiatives will give the right image of the hospitality industry to the foreign guests. The next in line projects would be the "Towers Suite", which will be a world class all-suite accommodation & refurbishment of the famed 'Fanoos' cafe.

To mark the 25th anniversary celebrations the hotel has planned a grand evening on June 9, 2007 for its elite corporate clientele, media & partners. They also have the expansion plans to develop Sheraton Hotel brand in Islamabad and Lahore for which the land has been purchased, and the project is likely to be completed by the year 2010. Besides, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. wanted to bring in few new brands other than Sheraton in the country, for which they have opted Multan, Sialkot and Faisalabad to be the place of location. These brands varied in nature which could be W Hotels brand that features contemporary properties, with modern facilities or aloft - the limited-service aloft brand combines the features of W Hotels and the value of Four Points by Sheraton.

We wish and hope that Sheraton will continue growing its network in the country so as to give an enchanting experience to the guests staying there and also to boost the country's image internationally.
