UPCOMING HOTELS IN ISLAMABAD

Work on six new five-star hotels, comprising 1600 rooms and 150 apartments, has been started in Islamabad to meet the growing shortage of hotel accommodation in the federal capital. At present Islamabad has only two five-star hotels - Marriott and Serena Hotel with only 470 rooms, which despite their 120 percent occupation were finding it impossible to accommodate the rush of visitors.

It is estimated that the demand for first class hotel accommodation will grow manifold in the next few years. The new six hotels would be ready by the end of 2009.

Under the directive of Pakistan government for taking immediate steps to overcome the shortage of five-star hotel accommodation in Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has taken some major concrete initiates in this regard.

Under various stages of development as per international standards, following five-star hotels would be ready in a due course of time.

1. Hotel Intercontinental

200 Rooms

2. Hotel Grand Hyatt

350 Rooms + 150 serviced Apartments

3. Hotel located in the Shopping Mall Blue Area

350 Rooms

4. Hotel Serena Extension

200 Rooms

5. 5-Star Hotel, directly behind Marriot

250 Rooms

6. Convention Centre Hotel

250 Rooms

HOTEL INTERCONTINENTAL:

Location: Behind Marriott
Size of the Plot: 4.5 Acres (22,000 sq.yds)
Owner: Escort Group
Capacity: 200 Rooms
Status: 55% of the work is completed. This project was stalled because of litigation for quite some time. Renewed efforts to resolve the issue bore fruit and construction was started again in February this year.
Completion date: June 2008

HOTEL GRAND HYATT:

Location: Near Convention Center
Size of the Plot: 13.5 Acres (65,098 sq.yds)
Owner: BNP Group
Capacity: 350 Rooms, 150 Serviced Apartments & 15 Presidential Suites
Status: Work started on site
Completion: Early 2010
Price of the plot: Rs. 4.88 billion

HOTEL SERENA EXTENSION:

Size of the Plot: 7.85 Acres (37,700 Sq.yds)

AVARI HOTELS:

Location: Near Melody Market G-6
Size of the Plot: 4333 sq.yds
Owner: Avari Hotels.
Capacity: 200 Rooms
Status: Work pending owing to government approval for planning; permission to go up to 32 stories
Completion: June 2008
Price of the plot: This was an old plot for Faisal Hotel which has been
purchased by Avari Hotels
