Chairman Senate of Pakistan Mohammad mian Soomro has said that quality in profession and services is the key to success in today's challenging and competitive world.

Addressing the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP) Convocation 2006, organised by the Institute's Karachi Branch Council (KBC) recently, Soomro said that quality was an important factor in professional success and services, especially in the world of today, "which is shrinking and has assumed the shape of a global village".

"Any service devoid of quality will lose its competitiveness and all the practices in this regard would be a futile exercise."

The Senate Chairman described the level of skills, cost-effectiveness of products and services and exploration of markets beyond geographical boundaries vital to survive in present competitive times and called upon the students to be ready for coming challenges, adding, "They should interact more and more and lay emphasis more on the research".

Soomro suggested to the students to be more technology-friendly by keeping themselves updated with the rapid changes in this area.

He exhorted the students to be good human beings and should take care of ethics. "You should strive to trickle down the blessings, which Allah has bestowed to you", he asked the students.

The talented professionals have a significant role towards shaping the future of the country's economy and urged them to acquire excellence and maintain the standards.

Commending the performance of the Institute, he said that there was tremendous amount of competition in the field of professional education. "However, this institution has met challenges and passed with honour."

He said that growth and progress of Management Accountants are a testimony of the commitment and hard work of its members.

He conferred gold medals, certificates of merit and certificates on the passing out students.

ICMAP President, Sher Afgan Malik, is no doubt a visionary in the field of education. He has done a great job by bringing the attention of the each student and the faculty members on a single point: "Quality education makes quality men who should serve the nation to pay back whatever the nation has given them." He felt that great responsibilities lie on the shoulders of future leaders to steer out the country and to meet the global challenges.

He was of the view that our education needs to produce quality graduates with an emphasis on making good human beings who can discern between right and wrong.

Speaking about the role of ICMAP, Sher Afghan Malik said with a sense of confidence as well as achievement that it is the only professional institute in Pakistan imparting education in the field of cost and management accountancy.

Sher Afgan Malik has chalked out plans to uplift the institute to an international level by joining hands with some international universities and the talks for this collaboration are in progress. He observed with a sense of achievement that the professionals and graduates produced by ICMAP are recognized all over the world and most of the students are offered jobs locally even before completion of the courses, which speaks about the quality of education and training being provided by ICMAP.

It is the need of the hour that our educational institutions should focus on producing quality graduates both in terms of their profession as well as in terms of good human beings, who could discern between vice and virtue. Future of our country lies in the hands of the coming generation which should be equipped with better education and better ethical, social and human values.
