Hashoo Group of Companies was established under the leadership of Mr. Sadruddin Hashwani, a dynamic businessman with vision and values. In a period of three decades he, through his single-handed dedication and commitment to the profession, has transformed the Group into a leading business powerhouse of Pakistan.
Hashoo Group is well known for its forward-looking approach and high standards of quality and integrity. Starting with Cotton Trading, Hashoo Group of Companies today have in their fold, the Pearl-Continental Hotels chain and Karachi and Islamabad Marriott Hotels with presence in all the major cities of Pakistan.
Hashoo Group's various chains of hotels are always of the highest caliber and can be counted on to maintain international quality services. The hotels are renowned for their ideal locations and tastefully decorated interiors that have a warm and friendly atmospheres as well as excellent restaurants featuring a wide range of authentic cuisines.
The Karachi Marriott was inaugurated in 1981 as the Holiday Inn. In 1992, the hotel was refurbished to qualify for the well-known five-star chain, Marriott. For the first time in the history of the Marriott Corporation, Franchise was given to hotels not under their own management for both Karachi Marriott and Islamabad Marriott Hotels. This in itself speaks volumes for the trust and confidence of big names in the international hotel industry in Mr. Sadruddin Hashwani.
The Pearl-Continental Hotel Karachi is awarded membership to The Leading Hotels of the World. In the hospitality industry, the Pearl-Continental Hotel Peshawar is being expanded by 100% and new hotels are being built in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Jammu Kashmir, and Gawadar the western most popular port city of Pakistan. Plans are being prepared for a hotel and convention center tower in Lahore. Large-scale modernization of existing Pearl-Continental Hotels in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Bhurban are also in progress as part of the continuing efforts to remain at the cutting edge of the hospitality business. The Zaver Pearl-Continental Hotel Gawadar is planned to open in June 2006 and the Pearl-Continental Hotel Muzaffarabad soon after that.
Besides being Pakistan's largest group in the hotel industry, the Group Companies are engaged in oil & gas exploration and production, Information Technology, mining, ceramics, pharmaceutical, tourism and travel and real estate.
The Group Companies are forward looking and as a policy explore new fronts to stay abreast of the competition. Mr. Hashwani's business acumen encouraged him to diversify into the petroleum Industry. In 1995, he acquired controlling stocks of the US based Corporation, Occidental of Pakistan Inc. (now known as Orient Petroleum Inc.), which is actively engaged in the exploration and production of oil and gas in the country. The activities are being expanded and today the Group has some 75% share in oil & gas exploration in the private sector.
Hashoo Group is in the pharmaceuticals activity as well, Gelcaps Pakistan, relates to the manufacture of halal gelatin capsules.
The popular premium mineral water brand, Sparkletts, is a renowned product of Hashoo Group.
Hashoo Group has established Hashoo Foundation Trust. The foundation's core activity is establishment and operation of schools at the doorsteps of the underprivileged communities for quality education of their children. It also extends helping hands to young men and women in their pursuit of higher studies and contributes towards other philanthropic activities. The Hashwani family has also setup HOAP International for skill training, extending healthcare and finding jobs for the poor segment of population. Another charitable organization by the name of Umeed-e-Noor is being run by Mrs. Noori Hashwani for the care and education of handicapped children.
Hashoo Group's Pakistan Services Limited ("PSL") was incorporated in 1958 as a Public Limited company and is quoted on Karachi Stock Exchange since 1964. The primary business of PSL is hospitality. It initially operated under the management of Inter Continental Hotel; however, when Hashoo Group acquired PSL in 1985 it changed the name of the Hotels to Pearl Continental Hotels and became the largest and oldest five star hotel chain of Pakistan. Pearl Continental Hotels is the first Pakistani chain, which has achieved excellent international standards of services, quality and product. In recognition of its high standards, Pearl Continental Hotel, Karachi was conferred the prestigious membership of "The Leading Hotels of the World", an exclusive global organization of deluxe hotels established in 1928. Pearl Continental Hotels have become synonymous with a tradition of personal service, efficiency, convenience and guest satisfaction.
Pearl-Continental Hotels, beside in-house reservation network, are also linked to have international exposure and overseas reservations network.
Since takeover by the Hashoo Group, "four Pearls" have undergone extensive renovation and refurbishment. New management concepts and intensive training programs have also been introduced. Another prestigious "Pearl" was added, as a picturesque hill resort operating as Pearl-Continental Hotel Bhurban with the total cost of over Rs. 550 million in 1990-1991.
In 1996, Pakistan Services Limited completed a US $ 50 million expansion program of the Pearl-Continental Hotel Lahore in which IFC, CDC and DEG had invested about Rs. 1 billion through foreign currency loan and equity. The expansion comprised of 300 additional rooms, a new atrium lobby, banquet and conventional hall, dinning facilities enhanced sport and fitness facilities, a new shopping arcade and a car parking structure.
In 2001, PSL has acquired the franchise of "Destinations of the World" for Pakistan region, creating an augmentation to its well-defined and managed disposition in the tourism & hospitality sectors in Pakistan. The new venture is designed to captivate and focus on in-bound and outbound Consolidation and Wholesales and is designed to introduce destinations to local tour operators, travel agencies and direct corporate customers.
The company at present is in process of adding another hotel project at Muzaffarabad (Azad Kashmir) and expanding its Peshawar Hotel.
Hashoo Group's Hashwani Hotels Limited (HHL) was incorporated in 1972 as a private limited company and was later on converted into a public limited company in 1974. Presently the company had a paid up capital of PKR 60 million.

The company started its hotel operation in 1978 with the opening of Holiday Inn Islamabad under franchise agreement with Bass European Netherlands. Holiday Inn Karachi was later on, opened in 1981. With high standard of service, well-furnished rooms and excellent facilities, these two hotels enjoyed impeccable reputation in the market. In October 1982, Marriott International Inc. showed interest in granting franchise to Hashwani Hotels Limited for operating these hotels under Marriott Brand. That was indeed an occasion of pride and honour for Hashwani Hotels Limited as it was for the first time in the history of Marriott Corporation that a franchise was given to hotel without management agreement.
HHL now owns and operates the Marriott Hotels in Karachi and Islamabad under a franchise from Marriott Worldwide Corporation, USA. The Hotels have an in-house reservation network and also linked with the Marriott International Reservation system (MARSHA) for easy access to any Marriott worldwide Hotel and travel agents worldwide. Both the hotels are renowned for their ideal location, décor and friendly atmosphere. The hotels have a tradition of continuous product development, service improvement and upgrading of operating standards, excelling the expectations of their guests. Islamabad Marriott Hotel has recently earned two prestigious international awards of "Best General Manager of the Year" and "Customer Excellence 2005" from Marriott International, a great success and an honor brought to Pakistan's hotel industry by being chosen in competition from among 2800 Marriott Hotels & Resorts all over the world.
HHL is also setting up a world-class hotel in Gawadar (a deep port city in the province of Balochistan). The Zaver Pearl-Continental Hotel Gawadar will have 114 rooms, restaurants, ballroom and banquet halls, health club and other allied facilities. Land has already been acquired by the company and construction work is going on in full swing. The hotel is planned to open in June 2006.
Besides hotels, HHL also owns and operates a porcelain tableware plant under the name of Cera-e-Noor. The plant was designed and commissioned with the collaboration of French ceramics giant, Bernadaud Limoges, and the technical and engineering expertise from other major players in the French ceramics industry such as Ceric and Cerlim.
