Visit of Karachi Port/Bin Qasim Port/Container Terminal Operators to Dubai

The Seatrade Middle East Maritime event, coupled with the Dubai International Maritime awards under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai was formally inaugurated by Sultan Ahmad Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman Dubai's Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation.

This convention in Dubai was held for the second time and designed to provide a unique meeting place for shipping and trading professionals covering the West and Central Asia. The conference provided sessions on liner shipping, dry and liquid bulk transport, port development, ship building and cruise/super yacht solutions.

The Seatrade Middle East Maritime Conference, was the regions premium conference and exhibition held for the maritime sector, received a resounding welcome in Dubai, Pakistan was well represented and it had a strong contingent. The two major ports, Karachi Port Trust and Bin Qasim Port Authority along with major companies namely Pakistan International Containers Terminal Operators with its Chairman Capt. Haleem Siddiqui, Karachi International Containers Terminal Operators with its Chief Executive Mr. Khurrum Abbas, Pakgro Group and Bulk Shipping & Trading (Pvt) Ltd (representing Seatrade [UK] in Pakistan) made their presence felt with impressive stands. Pakistan also had the honour to have the Karachi Port Trust Chairman Vice Admiral Ahmad Hayat as one of the speakers at the conference, and another important shipping professional Mr. Farooq Rehmatoola, Chairman Ray Shipping as a speaker. Mr. Khizer Hayat J.S. of Ports & Shipping and Mr. Mohammad A. Rajpar, Hon. Secretary Pakistan Ship Agents Association were also present.

Rear Admiral Saleem A. Manhai, Chairman Port Qasim (who also attended the event) presented a memento to the executive chairman for Dubai's Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation. He also presented mementos to Mr. Chris Hayman, Managing Director, Seatrade UK and Mr. Tariq Haleem, Managing Director, Bulk Shipping & Trading (Pvt) Ltd.

The event was a success as around 4,000 visitors and delegates representing ship owners, trading companies, charterers, ship builders, brokers, ports ship agents, travel agents, insurers and lawyers were present. In fact it was the largest shop window of products and services for the maritime industry assembled in the Middle East. It was indeed a matter of pride for Pakistan to have both the national ports at the exhibition and also received a warm response from the visitors.
