Since its foundation in 1972, the Institute of Business Administration, University of the Punjab, has undergone a great deal of change, Developing from what was originally a modest programme on cooperative basis, it became an independent department in Pun Building at the Quaid-e-Azam Campus, which was later upgraded to the Institute of Business Administration. This was a great milestone in the history of the University, being the second institute in Pakistan where teaching of business administration leading to MBA degree commenced in full swing.

Our institute offers a two-year full-time morning programme leading to Master's degree in business administration (MBA) to fresh graduates. It is operated on semester system. The prime emphasis, in this institute, is laid on raising the standard of education and improving the personality of its graduates. The whole package consists of 23 courses with a mandatory eight weeks business attachment to furnish the graduates with practical experience of business life. Presently, the institute offers three areas of concentration, namely Marketing, Finance and Information Technology.

To date, we have produced 2275 MBAs, who are contributing their share of valuable services on local as well as foreign soil. The spectrum of these services is very wide, including public and private institutions, imports and exports sector and set up of educational institutions. Everywhere the students of IBA, University of the Punjab, have done an excellent job.

With the kind support of the University authorities we started MBA evening programme in 1995. The idea behind this programme was to impart management education to in-service executives working in public, private, government and multinational sectors so that they could improve their professional skills and performance, could bring efficiency, effectiveness and new constructive developments compatible with the complex changing environment of business world in their organizations. In the first five batches 575 students successfully completed the MBA degree programme.

Since 1992, we are offering a one year Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Business Administration also. In the first eight batches 414 students have successfully completed the pgoramme. The Ninth batch is currently in its fourth term. The diploma holders are rendering useful services to their employers in public and private sectors.

Twenty seats have been reserved in the MBA (Evening) programme for holders of Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Business Administration from University of the Punjab.

In the year 2002, another milestone in business education has been achieved by introducing Ph.D. in Business Administration under the leadership of Prof Dr. Muhammad Ehsan Malik. The areas of specialization in which Ph.D. will be done are Finance, Marketing, Management and Human Resource Management.
