Department of Public Administration (University of Karachi) in on its pinnacle under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Dr. Syed Humayun, Chairman Department of Public Administration (DPA), University of Karachi.
As part of extra curricular activities, a workshop on "Career Planning" was held at Department of Public Administration, Karachi University on 6th August. The event was organized by a group of MPA (Previous) students and was attended by several students of the Department.
Mr. Tariq Shamim Durrani, an ex-student of the same department was invited to conduct this session. Mr. Durrani, who is currently working as an Asst. Brand Manager at Cambridge Garments enjoyed vast experience in selection and recruitment process at

PSO and Indus Motors. He enlightened the participants with his valuable knowledge on the subject that was of great help to the participants and further enhanced their knowledge regarding latest trends and techniques being practiced in the market.

Mr. Durrani highlighted the importance of effective Resume writing, current trends in Resume writing, and essential aspects of Resume which are required by organizations. Mr. Durrani also discussed some major issues concerning interviewing skills. He discussed various aspects and considerations which are observed in an interview. He also promised the junior students for mock interview sessions at the department by the end of this year.

At the end of the event Dr. Syed Humayun raised the issues related to Job opportunities and emphasized on the necessity to equip graduating students with skills related to job searching and interviews. Dr. Humayun conveyed an appreciation note and showed gratitude to the guest speaker and anticipated for similar response from the speaker in future.


At a ceremony organized by Consumer Association of Pakistan, Standard Chartered won the Consumers Choice Award 2004 for Credit Cards.

Award recipients were identified through a comprehensive and objective survey, judged by customer satisfaction polling and finally by the governing body of Consumers Association of Pakistan (CAP).

Mr. Waqar A Malik has been appointed as the Chief Executive of ICI Pakistan Limited, with effect from 1st October 2005, replacing Mr. John R Stoney who will be returning to the UK with ICI Plc.

Prior to this appointment, Waqar Malik was the Chief Executive of Pakistan PTA Limited, which is an ICI group Company in Pakistan. He is a Chartered Accountant by profession and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. He has been with ICI Pakistan for almost 20 years.

He has worked in ICI Pakistanís Chemicals, Life Sciences (formerly Pharmaceuticals), Agrochemicals, Paints and Polyester Staple Fibre Businesses in Finance and Commercial roles from 1985 to 1993. In 1994, he was transferred to ICIís Group Headquarters in London where he served as Corporate Finance Manager on a two-year secondment in the Corporate Finance Department, a Board Support function with responsibility for mergers, corporate restructurings, financing arrangements, dividend policy etc. During his secondment he also worked closely with ICI Plcís Corporate Planning and Strategy Department on a major corporate portfolio-restructuring project.

In 1996, he returned to Pakistan and was appointed General Manager Finance and Planning for ICI Pakistan, which included responsibilities for Treasury, Tax and Corporate Reporting. In 1998, he was appointed General Manager and later on became Vice President of Polyester Staple Fibre Business in Lahore. He was also a Director on ICI Pakistan Board and Chief Executive of ICI Pakistan PowerGen Limited.

Mr Malik has held position as Member of Board of Governors of Fatima Jinnah Medical College and is a Member of the Managing Committee of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) and heads its Taxation Committee.
