COMMENTS:
The rupee remained under tremendous pressure against dollar this week and fell to five-month lows on Friday. The dollar started new week on its previous positive note and continued to climb amid heavy demand from buyers and its persistent rise in the international markets against euro, yen and pound sterling. Buyers were mainly making their financial year-end purchases which resulted in shortage of physical cash in the market and thus an upward trend of dollar was seen throughout. On Friday, the lows reached their peak when rupee fell to Rs61/- per dollar which was its highest price recorded this year so far.

:
Pound sterling showed a rising trend in the initial sessions but gave up towards weekend. Initially, sterling kept rupee under pressure as the currency started off at Rs111/45 and went up to Rs112/25 on Friday showing an overall gain of 0.80 paisa. However, the trend reversed and rupee recovered as on Saturday, the exchange price went down to Rs111/40 as buoyant dollar reached fresh highs against euro and sterling in weekend trading.

COMMENTS: A mix trend was recorded in the price of euro against rupee this week and the currency moved both ways. Euro started on a firm note at Rs76/65 and progressed positively by crossing Rs77/- barrier before rupee came up and recovered its lost grounds. The trading trend of the currency remained normal and no major buying of the currency was seen.
