SIXTH NCR NATIONAL IT EXCELLENCE AWARDS RECOGNIZES WINNERS AND JUDGES AT A GRAND CEREMONY

NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) has announced the winners for the year 2003-2004 at the Sixth NCR National IT Excellence Awards ceremony held recently at Mohatta Palace Museum, Karachi as the ambience was befitting of this historic venue where in a grand setting the best of the best in the information technology (IT) industry were given much coveted awards.
Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Minister for IT and Telecom, appreciated NCR in consistently holding these prestigious awards to encourage the IT professionals of the country in a befitting manner. He also congratulated the winners in achieving excellence in their respective fields and spoke on the importance of holding these awards.

 

 

"I am very pleased to host the Sixth NCR IT Excellence Awards as this is a novel concept of recognizing people in IT industry at the national level who have been instrumental in introducing, promoting and implementing IT in Pakistan. The first awards of this kind were launched by NCR in 1997 as part of Pakistan's Golden Jubilee to recognize professionals in the information technology arena at a national level," said Syed Bader ul Islam, NCR Managing Director for Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Following are the details of the winners of Sixth NCR National IT Excellence Awards for the achievements in year 2003-2004: .

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT WINNER: MAZHAR HASAN FARE WHEELS FLEET MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Mazhar Hasan has been judged the winner of the Sixth NCR IT Excellence Award for Software Development category. He won the award for Fare Wheels, a product of yEvolve (Pvt) Ltd, which is a complete fleet management product. Fare Wheel has gained an evident recognition in the Asia Pacific ICT Awards 6th NCR, held in Hong Kong and the Best of Tourism & Hospitality in P@SHA ICT Awards 6th NCR.

INTERNETWORKING WINNER: Two winners were declared by judges in this category.

WINNER-1: WING COMMANDER MOHAMMAD TAHIR AYOUB SIDDIQUI PAF INTRANET AND PAFNET

Wing Commander Mohammad Tahir Ayoub Siddiqui has been judged the winner of the Sixth NCR IT Excellence Award for Internetworking Category. He has successfully designed and implemented the Pakistan Air Force intranet named PAFNET, an IP-based data network providing secured intranet to PAF employees all over Pakistan.

WINNER-2: YASIR ZAFAR ISHAQ ANSARI DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION OF MACHINE READABLE PASSPORT (MRP) AT NADRA

Yasir Zafar Ishaq Ansari has been judged the winner of the Sixth NCR IT Excellence Award for Internetworking Category. He has successfully integrated and consolidated Machine Readable Passport (MRP) with NADRA'S Network. He has worked on Project's new requirements and dimensions from conceptual design stage to fully operational network.

IT PROMOTION WINNER: ABDAL SAEED SPL CUSTOMER INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR UTILITIES AT SUI SOUTHERN GAS COMPANY (SSGC)

Abdal Saeed has been judged the winner of the Sixth NCR IT Excellence Award for IT Promotion Category. He has developed a pilot project on the basis of SSGC's requirements and later successfully implemented the SPL Customer Care & Billing system. His initiative let to future deployments in middle-eastern and far-eastern countries.

I.T RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT WINNER: AHSAN ABDULLAH AGRICULTURE DATA MINER

Ahsan Abdullah has been judged the winner of the Sixth NCR IT Excellence Award for IT Research & Development Category. He had been highly successful in his research work carried out in FAST National University, Islamabad which led to an indigenous data-mining tool, which is being utilized by Department of Pest Warning, Govt of Punjab.

 

 

IT EDUCATION WINNER: DR. NAZIR A. SANGI: OPEN LEARNING INSTITUTE OF VIRTUAL EDUCATION (OLIVE)

Dr Nazir A. Sangi has been judged the winner of the Sixth NCR IT Excellence Award for IT Education Category. His project aims at providing online virtual classroom environment to the students. Video/Audio, Chat, White Board and PowerPoint are some of the key features of OLIVE. He has led a distinguished career in IT education, and has made significant contributions to the field of IT.

IT MEDIA & PUBLICATION WINNER: MIRZA MUZAMMIL BAIG SOFTWARE LEARNING TOOLS FALCON-A PROCESSOR

Mirza Muzammil has been judged the winner of the Sixth NCR IT Excellence Award for IT Media & Publication Category. He won the award for First Architecture in Learning Computer Organization and Networks (FALCON). It is a "RlSC-Like" general purpose processor that has been successfully used as a teaching aid in various computer architecture courses at a number of well- known universities.

IT STUDENT WINNER: TASHFEEN SULEMAN SENUS STRUCTURE SECURITY SYSTEM

Tashfeen Suleman has been judged the winner of Sixth NCR IT Excellence Awards for IT Student Category. He has won the award for developing SenUS, a wireless based structure health monitoring system for concrete/steel structures such as buildings, bridges, dams etc. Tashfeen's role in active research and development has led him to win four international events in the academia as well as industry.

IT YOUTH WINNER: ISBAH SHAFQUAT-WORLD RECORD IN IT CERTIFICATION

Ms. Isbah has been judged the winner of the Sixth NCR IT Excellence Award for IT Youth Category. She has won the award on being the world's Youngest Microsoft Certified ASP.Net Developer. Isbah Shafquat is a 17 years old and has made two world records by becoming World's youngest Microsoft Certified VB.Net Developer and World's youngest Microsoft Certified C # Programmer.

SOFTWARE EXPORT WINNER: NETSOL TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED (TOTAL SOFTWARE EXPORTS OF USD 3.2 MILLION FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 2004)

NetSol Technologies Limited, a leading information technology company in Pakistan has been judged the winner of the Sixth NCR National IT Excellence Awards 2004 for Highest Software Exporter category with USD 3.2 million Software Exports for the calendar year 2004. The top software exporters and their export earnings were verified to confirm the Highest Exporter in this category by reviewing the related For R's, Proceed Realization Certificates (PRC) issued by the respective banks, and the cumulative FE-40 Statement as required by State Bank of Pakistan.

Rahat Kazmi and Nighat Rizvi were comperes of the evening while the live performances were by Sajeerud-din & Co and Tina Sani.

SONERI BANK'S TFC OVERSUBSCRIBED

The public offer of Soneri Bank's subordinated Tier-2 eligible TFC has been oversubscribed by over two times. The public offering of Rs200,00 million, received applications of over Rs400 million from retail and investors in recent history. Soneri Bank's TFC is the only unsecured subordinated floating rate TFC receive such heavy level of over subscription. Global Securities Pakistan Limited were the advisor and arranger for the transaction.

The TFC issue of Rs1.20 billion on comprised of Pre-IPO placement of one billion rupees and IPO of Rs200 million. Thirty investors participated in the Pre-IPO offering which was disbursed in only three weeks from the launch of the transaction and allow Soneri to use the pre-IPO proceeds for capital adequacy purposes for the quarter ending March 2005. The eight-year floating rate TFC issue is priced at 6 month KIBOR plus 1.60 % with no floor or cap and will be re-priced every six months.

The TFC issue will contribute Soneri Bank's Tier-2 capital requirements and provide the bank with substantial capital to aggressively pursue the bank's growth plans.
