SIEMENS MOBILE LAUNCHES ITS NEW SL65 MOBILE PHONES

Siemens mobile recently launched its latest SL65 mobile phone in Pakistan. The SL65 is an exclusive design-driven phone, which has been created with the highest attention to detail. Intelligent, individual, exciting, creative are all the attributes of the new SL65, where this "eye catcher" combines sophisticated and cutting-edge technology with striking visual aspects.

MUHAMMAD RAFI ELECTED AS PRESIDENT OF ICMAP

Muhammad Rafi has been elected President of ICMAP for the year 2005 by the National Council of ICMAP in its 211th meeting held at Islamabad. Muhammad Rafi who was first elected as Member of National Council of ICMAP in 1997 held various honorary positions at the Council since then including Honorary Secretary and Treasurer, Prior to his election as President he worked as Honorary Vice President of the institute. He was also the Chairman, Joint Committee of ICMAP and ICAP for the year 2004.

PAKTEL RESPONDS TO TSUNAMI TRAGEDY

Paktel, Pakistan's pioneering mobile operator has come forward to help the victims of one of the worst natural calamities of human history—the tsunami tragedy that has claimed more than 80,000 lives in South Asia and Africa. According to officials, Paktel will donate the entire income from its SMS services for the period December 31, 2004 to January 1, 2005 to the cause.

Paktel's sister company in Sri Lanka is already helping in the relief efforts. Here in Pakistan, Paktel requests all its subscribers to send as many SMS messages as they can in these two days so that a sizeable amount can be collected for the victims.

BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT IMPROVING IN PAKISTAN

A business advocacy and awareness event was recently organized jointly by Young Entrepreneurs Organization (YEO), Fakhar

Law International and Market Access Promotion (FLI & M@P) in Lahore at the Royal Palm Golf Club.

The participants debated on business advocacy on trade issues and the need to change the industry mindset towards management and marketing. Highly qualified experts were invited as speakers. Professor Jean Pierre Lehman represented the Institute of Management Development Switzerland along with Mr. Stephen Kamande former Global President of DuPont Textiles-Asia. (Now known as Invista). The program began with a welcome note by Mr. S. M. Naveed on behalf of the YEO, while introducing the YEO, Mr. Naveed emphasized on the pace of change in today's era and the need to catch up with the trends of globalization.

UBL PLACES ONE OF THE LARGEST ATM ORDERS IN THE HISTORY OF PAKISTAN

UBL has taken another leap in its vision towards becoming a World Class Bank by placing one of the largest ATM orders in the history of Pakistan for 60 ATMs. This order will take UBL's ATM network strength to 113 and will be shared among the world's three leading international vendors - NCR Corporation, Wincor Nixdorf (represented by Innovative Pvt. Ltd), and Diebold (represented by Gestetner Pvt. Ltd). To mark this momentous occasion signing ceremonies were held in UBL's head office in Karachi.

 

 

The President of UBL, Mr. Atif Bokhari expressed his joy at having crossed the 100 ATM milestone. He commented that this step further strengthens UBL's foothold in Pakistan's banking industry and adds to its business strength. He also revealed that within 2005, UBL customers would no longer have to wait in long lines to pay their utility bills. This facility, along with funds transfer across 1 Link banks will be offered on UBL's state-of-the-art ATMs taking convenience to a whole new level. UBL's Group Executive Commercial and Consumer Banking, M.A Mannan added that in the not too distant future, UBL plans to truly revolutionize the local banking experience by putting up ATMs at grocery stores, shopping malls, hospitals and other convenient locations. The UBL Wallet ATM/Debit Card will also soon migrate to VISA and be accepted globally so UBL customers are never far away from their cash.

UBL was recently in the limelight for opening Pakistan's First Drive-thru Branch offering dual drive-thru services of a live teller and an ATM, which the customer can use from the comfort of his or her car. This drive-thru facility in North Nazimabad, Karachi has a live teller providing almost all banking services during normal banking hours. In addition to this, the ATM with the Virtual Human Assistant provides a world-class experience to the drive-thru customers.
