COMMENTS: The rupee remained under mild pressure against the greenback this week amid strong month-end demand and short supply here in the kerb. The demand of dollars came from the business enterprises for meeting their month-end payment requirements and mainly the individuals flying back after celebrating Eid along with their families. But the trend changed due to dollar's falls in the international market, decline in demand and improved supply towards the weekend.

COMMENTS: Euro kept tremendous pressure on rupee this week too and touched all time highs crossing the Rs. 79/- barrier in the mid week. The rupee which started at Rs. 77/65 at one stage fell below Rs. 79/- mark for the very first time in the history of currency trading here in the kerb. The major reason of rupee's fall was the sparkling performance of euro against the US dollar in the international market throughout this week.

COMMENTS: Yen prolonged with its rising trend against rupee this week and added more gains to its last week's price. Dollar against yen through out this week, continued to probe near multi-year lows beneath the 103-level, with continued government jawboning providing little support for the pair. The Boj's Haru stressed the need to carefully watch the impact of further yen strengthening on Japan's economy.
