NCR IS FIRST COMPANY IN PAKISTAN TO ATTAIN CMM
LEVEL 5 ASSESSMENT FROM SEI
NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) announced recently
that it is the first company in Pakistan that has been assessed for
and has achieved Level 5 of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM), the
highest maturity level for any software process, for its
professional services organization. With the achievement, NCR has
reached an important milestone in the history of the information
technology (IT) industry in Pakistan.
CMM is regarded as the de facto standard for any
organization engaged in providing professional services around the
globe. The Capability Maturity Model, developed by the Software
Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Melon University, provides a
framework for organizing small evolutionary steps into five maturity
levels that support continuous software process improvements.
"With great management support, leading-edge
process and technology assets, empowered associates and the drive to
be the best in the world, (NCR has) achieved CMM Level 5," said
Ron Weidemann, SEI Authorized CMM Lead Assessor.
Commenting on the assessment, Syed Veqar ul
Islam, NCR managing director for Pakistan, Bangladesh and
Afghanistan, said, "This achievement is unique and truly
establishes NCR as an organization par excellence in Pakistan. It
demonstrates NCR's strong commitment to maintain the highest quality
standards and to deliver measurable business benefits to its
clients. I am delighted that NCR has set yet another benchmark in
the industry, which will go a long way towards giving other
companies the incentive to go for CMM certification."
The CMM Level 5 rating has been achieved by fewer
than 100 companies worldwide, including only 12 in the United States
at the beginning of 2004. With the successful assessment, NCR in
Pakistan has joined an elite group of high-maturity software
organizations and establishes itself as the foremost IT company in
Pakistan committed to continuous improvement in delivering
high-value projects through innovation and excellence.
"This assessment confirms NCR's commitment
to delivering technology solutions from a customer-centric
perspective and not just from an implementation perspective. It
reflects that NCR in Pakistan has the proper methodology and
processes in place to provide a disciplined and measurable approach
to delivering technology solutions," said Faisal Khaliq,
professional services manager for NCR in Pakistan.
In the last two and a half years, NCR has
solidified its role as a regional IT services leader by managing
technology implementations for customers across Europe, the Middle
East and Africa. The CMM Level 5 certification further establishes
NCR in Pakistan as an information technology organization that has
the capability, the processes and the credentials to deliver on its
