The liberalization and privatization policy has brought a revolution in the telecommunication sector in Pakistan. Currently, a robust growth in the telecommunication sector is visible both in the landline telephone as well as in the cellular phones. As a result of growing competition, the PTCL has sharply reduced the installation charges especially for underdeveloped rural areas in Pakistan. Now the subscribers are required to pay only Rs500 to get a fixed line telephone connection. The government is also considering to further cut down the call charges which at present are on the higher side and discourage people to have a telephone. Currently, there are 5 million subscribers of the PTCL which are expected to take quantum jump after providing facility in the rural areas at a cheaper rate.
