Nowadays, the applications in education using
multimedia, caused a revolution, but at the same time they have
created an amount of conflicts and speculations concerning the way and
the rate of technology participation in educational processes. Yet, it
is a fact that students from the first up to the higher degrees of
education, learn to use computers more and more, get familiar with
their presence and with their complementary purpose in education. The
educational multimedia applications can be used in an effective and
productive way in many cases of educational processes by combining a
large amount of texts, images, sounds and different media types.
Educational multimedia applications are basically
met in environments of computer-supported collaboration; distance
learning and computer based training processes.
The use of multimedia applications in educational
programs has a tremendous potential to show. In all educational
degrees, the use of computers, which "run" multimedia
applications for educational purposes, is an increasingly common
practice. The role that the correctly designed multimedia application
plays is double. They help not only, the trainee in the comprehension
process of the teaching material and in the notion consolidation, but
also the trainer in his attempt to establish his training object more
explicit, detailed and complete.
The dynamic presence of multimedia applications in
the educational processes is directly related to the results of the
long lasting research of psychologists, educators and other
scientists, who come to the conclusion that the combined visual and
auditory presentation of a subject remain 50% in human memory, whereas
the human brain doesn't keep but a 20% from the hearings and just a
10% from the reading texts. Therefore, these figures show that the
combination of audio-visual data in educational processes leaves more
knowledge deposits in trainees.
In technologically advanced countries, students can
attend to distant learning classes from their home through the use of
a Wide Area Network, WAN, and their personal computers. There also
exist similar application examples concerning subjects of further
education and particular employee training who — due to the lack of
time- cannot attend to classes of higher educational degrees in
educational institutions. The use of applications based on computers
faces the physical disadvantages of people with disabilities, too.
Through the combined presentation of images, video, texts, sound,
graphics and animation, it is easier for someone to overcome his/her
disability and conceive the content and meaning of all that are being
presented by the special application.
