Wrote two Case Studies on the topic of "Export Channel Management" with regard to Surgical and Textile industries in Pakistan, sponsored by ITC/GATT/UNCTAD, Geneva, 1984-86 and reproduced in the book entitled "Management Cases: An International Edition 1999. As Director Institute of Business Administration (IBA) {Since March 20, 2002} Significant personal efforts with a commitment to University Education & Research:

•IBA membership with Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA), which is an organ of SAARC.

•Arranged Seminars (on HRM, E-Marketing etc.) at IBA by eminent professionals like Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad, Rector, Institute of Management and Technology, Mr. A. Ahmad Khan GM PSO, Director of NGORC an organ of Agha Khan Foundation, Mr. Yawar Irfan Khan, President Lahore Chamber of Commerce, CEO of jaanpakistan.com etc.

•Regularization of exams, staff meetings, student events, sports activities, tours, graduation ceremony etc.

•Consultancy work of the new extension building has been finished and the construction work is about to start.

•Started Ph.D. in Business Administration at IBA (a milestone), for the first time at University of the Punjab inaugurated by Federal Minister for Commerce & Industry Mr. Abdul Razak Dawood, who has also been a faculty member of IBA during 80s.

•Arranged a six weeks teaching assignment by Prof Dr Hamid Rehman, United States International University, San Diego, CA, US, which will start from the middle of September, 2003 under Transfer of Knowledge through Expatriate Nationals (TOKTEN) Program.

•Governor Punjab Province & Chancellor, University of the Punjab, Lahore Lt Gen (Retd) Khalid Maqbool visited IBA on June 12, 2003 and appreciated its performance & development.

AS A RESOURCE PERSON/SPEAKER

Presented a paper on "Re-defining Management Education for the 21st Century", in the 7th Asian Management Forum (AMDISA) at Male, Maldives held from 13th April, 2002 to 17th April, 2002.

•Presented and developed study material for the workshop on "Effective Business Writing", at Management Development Institute, Habib Bank Limited, Lahore for Executives held from 25th April to 26th April 2002.

•Participated in the Pre-budget Seminar 2002-2003 and presented views on "Entrepreneurship" (Self Generation of Employment — Focus on Agriculture) chaired by Finance Minister Punjab at Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), Lahore held on May 29, 2002.

•Participated in the "National Conference" arranged by The Institute of Internal Auditors (Pakistan Chapter) held on June 8th, 2002 at Avari, Lahore.

•Arranged one week workshop on "Capacity Building Program" for civil servants of BPS-17 to BPS-19, in collaboration with Foreign Trade Institute of Pakistan (FTIP), Ministry of Trade and Commerce and presented paper on "Export Marketing Strategies" held at Falettis Hotel, Lahore from 26th August to 31st August, 2002.

•IBA representation in 2-Day Workshop on Quality Assurance &; Accreditation of South Asian Business Schools, held at Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) Colombo, Sri Lanka from September 5th to 6th, 2002 at Colombo.

•Presented a lecture on Organizational Efficiency and Effectiveness to the officers in BS-17 to BS-19 of the Federal & Provincial Governments attending 29th Management Systems & Methods course held from October 14-26, 2002 at Cabinet Secretariat, Government of Pakistan, Lahore.

•Presented a lecture on Effective Communication Skills and Management Techniques (Overview) to the participants of Training Program for Newly Appointed Hospital Pharmacists (2nd Batch) on October 17, 2002 at Punjab Pharmacy Council, Lahore.

•Participated in a seminar organized by NUST Institute of Management Sciences (NIMS) in collaboration with the British Council Gender Equality Program on "Changing Role of Women in Management", on March 01, 2003 held at NIMS, Rawalpindi.

•Participated and exchanged views on "The Solution of Pakistan Economic Problems" a seminar organized by Awaz (Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman Memorial Society) at Avari Lahore on March 02, 2003.

•Presented a lecture on Human Resource Management and Development in the 21st Century on April 21, 2003 to the officers in BS-17 to BS-19 of the Federal & Provincial Governments attending Human Resource Management & Development Course (April 21-26, 2003) at Cabinet Secretariat, Government of Pakistan, Lahore.

•International recognition of Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of the Punjab as University of Toronto, Canada has recognized the degree of our Institute equivalent to theirs.

 

 

As Controller of Examinations {Since May, 2000}

•Dealing with the Examiners of the affiliated colleges and of other universities i.e. B. Z. University, Multan, Islamic University, Bahawalpur, Peshawar University, Karachi University, Quetta University and all Medical colleges in Pakistan.

The following {about 12000 Professors/Academicians} are linked with me as examiners, paper setters and evaluators. The detailed break-up is given below:

• For the Supervision and Evaluation of Ph.D. dissertations, a large number of national and international examiners are engaged. Due to effective management millions of rupees have been saved. The verification process has become very short.

OUTSTANDING DEGREES: Since 1990 even before, 700,000 degrees were outstanding. About 600,000 outstanding degrees have been issued during my tenure.

NEW DEGREE FORMAT: Recently a computerized degree with new format has been designed and a new system using Offset machine is being used to produce 3,000 degrees in one hour as against 20 for old system, which made possible to issue outstanding degrees.

CONVOCATIONS: 4 regular convocations have been held since 2000 whereas the Punjab University at University Campus held 6 since 1970. More than 100 CONVOCATIONS held in affiliated colleges in almost all 5 Divisions/Districts of Punjab Province since 2000.

COMPUTERIZATION: Examinations Department has been fully computerized during the last two years. In the year 2001, B.A./B.Sc. results have been declared on Internet. Approximately 100,000 graduates saw their results on line. All PU results are now being announced on the website of the University. Every year the Department of Examinations conducts 275 exams. Since my induction as Controller Exams all examinations are being held on time and results announced on the Internet as per Academic Calendar of the University.

EXAMINATION HALL: Construction of a new building for examinations has been started, and it will be completed by the end of next year 2004. This will save Rs. 4 million per year expenditures for hiring tent/furniture on rent.

 

 

TRANSPARENCY IN THE EVALUATION SYSTEM: To make the examinations more transparent certain actions have been taken. Cut-lists with candidates photograph and printed address have been introduced. Manual attendance chart has been replaced by computerized chart. Standard grading system, matching with international and professional requirement has also been initiated.

A Commitment to Develop the Human Resource:

For the development of the staff many seminars and workshops are being arranged, at IBA:

• Two senior professors participated in workshops from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

• Two faculty members are doing Ph.D.; full support is being given to them.

• Realizing the importance of research and training of the teachers Ph.D. program has been launched. Seven out of the eight research scholars who have been enrolled for Ph.D. are full or part time teachers.

• Administrative staff was also motivated towards training in overall grooming particularly in IT SKILL.

Since, Examination Department is being converted from manual system to computerized system, the entire staff of Examination Department comprising of 500 persons is being given computer education. This will, and has already helped in expediting the process of conducting examinations and result declaration and the whole personnel will be fully trained by the end of 2003.
