Pakistani auto industry produced record passenger cars last fiscal 2001-02 and improved its performance even better during July, the first month of the current fiscal. However, the industry still reels from under-capacity utilization, absence of economies of scale and high production costs. PIA
PIA, originally a passenger airline, has decided to add two dedicated cargo aircraft to its fleet from next year. Currently, a major chunk of the cargo shipments originated from Pakistan is shared by other foreign airlines. PIA's Managing Director has said that induction of two cargo charters would help handling the flowers, mangoes, and fresh fruit cargo. The corporation is intended to capture over 60 per cent of the cargo market through these aircraft.

SSGC'S GAS INFRASTRUCTURE
The company has chalked out an elaborate gas infrastructure rehabilitation and expansion project. It is aimed at enhancing transmission and distribution capacity by 50 per cent. This had become necessary with the discovery of new gas field in the country.
