For the first time in the history of Pakistan, the area of electronic media which, used to be the exclusive domain of the public sector has been opened for investment in the private sector.
Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has started receiving a large number of applications for setting up radio and television stations in the private sector. PEMRA has so far received 64 applications for setting up radio stations in private sector, while the last date for submitting applications for the television station is September 20, 2002.
Out of 64 applications for radio 

transmission, five will be given permission in

the initial stage and almost similar number of TV broadcasting houses will be given permission.

 

BOT
The provincial governments are reportedly considering financing options such as Build, Own and Transfer (BOT) or Build, Own and Operate (BOO) for construction of new highways or up-gradation of the existing highways. This article mentions alternate financing options and suggests important points to the government for consideration in case of BOT or BOO.

RAILWAYS
 The Minister for Railways and Communication Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Javed Ashraf Qazi has claimed that there has been a complete turn around in the economy of Pakistan Railways and the organisation which was showing an operational loss of about Rs.3 billion 2 years back has started showing profit.
