The Institute of Business Management (IoBM) was
established seven years ago. Within a short period it has become a
national institution and established its credentials. It is committed to
producing business leadership of the highest caliber for Pakistan. The
range of courses offered by the IoBM has expanded rapidly and curricula
are updated regularly to meet the ever changing needs of the market.
During last two years we have established two new colleges, the College
of Computer Science and Information Systems and the College of Economics
and Social Development.
We have succeeded in attracting highly qualified
faculty with experience of teaching at business schools in the USA and
Europe. We have developed close links with Pakistan's trade and
industry. Our Business Support Centre provides training, research and
consultancy services to the Government of Sindh, the National Institute
of Public Administration (NIPA) and the Small and Medium Enterprises
Development Authority (SMEDA) and other national and multinational
organizations, on regular basis.
The IoBM has a brand new purpose built campus spread
over eight acres. The Business College building comprise of 57,000 sq.
ft. covered area, equipped with state-of-the art teaching equipment. A
separate Administration and Business Support Centre building, with a
covered area of 25,000 sq. ft. has completed. Another building with a
covered area of 25,000 sq. ft. to house the College of Computer Science
and Information Systems is nearing completion. Construction of the
Students Activity Centre building and the Convocation Centre is likely
to be completed by December 2002. Future plans include construction of a
library building and a building to house the College of Economics and
Social Development.
Pakistan's progress depends crucially on the
commitment and the professional efficiency of the business leadership
that is being produced by the local business schools. To achieve this
objective IoBM's academic programmes have been made comprehensive in
concept and structure. They broadly resemble honours programmes offered
by the American Universities. The IoBM has highly qualified faculty with
most of them holding doctorate and Masters from abroad. The Institute
regularly conducts programmes to enhance the skill and qualification of
the faculty.
The IoBM also has extensive links with North American
universities. Professors from the universities of Arizona State and
Brock have served as Chief Academic Officers. The present Dean has over
20 years of teaching experience at British and American universities.
The IoBM is an academic trail blazer. Innovative masters degrees and
certificate courses have been launched in the areas of Health and
Hospital Management, Pharmaceutical Administration and Population
Welfare, Computer Science, Marketing Communication, Finance and MIS and
Master of Science programme in Accounting.
We also offer The CFA Advantage to students seeking
major in MBA Finance programme. The globally acknowledges Chartered
Financial Analysts programme is administered by the US based Association
for Investment Management and Research (AIMR). The CFA Track delivers
higher quality by adopting the entire curriculum of the CFA programme's
Level I and Level II examinations. There are over 42,000 CFA charter
holders the world over, including slightly more than 50 from Pakistan.
Every year, more than 65,000 candidates appear in these examinations
including more than 600 from Pakistan.
The CFA Track offers four electives in finance. These
are all sequential courses and the various text books from which reading
material of these courses belong, are the same as prescribed by the AIMR.
These are: 1)
