Material Science can play a pivotal role in
development of Defence strategic materials: the new version of armour
plate is instead of being made out of Hardened and Tempered alloy steel
is being made of composite material and because of the light weight it
can move very fastly. Pakistan has a very strong base for developing its
defence exports which has already crossed $ 50 million mark.
With exports of tanks the figures would improve

What can be done?.
Can the Ministry of Science make the dream of
Material Scientist come true.
Yes it can. It needs to coordinate bring Steel
Industry, Polymeric and Textile Institutes, Nuclear Institutes,
Automobile Industries R&D, Telecom Research and Urban Planning etc
all located in Karachi and develop an Institute of Advanced Materials
Science in Karachi. Use Magic Hand of Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan and others.
The rest will be done.
The area that needs immediate focus is development of
Material Science in the country. Optical fibre development, Material for
desalination, Composite and polymer and deep drawing grade steel for
automobile sector, electronics material, smart materials, alternate
textile materials, and then iron ores, coals and Advanced materials are
areas that have to be taken care of with full force.
There is need to be a coordinator who can channel the
present resources effectively and Ministry of Science can play the major
role. So act before its too late and Lead from front.
