There are efforts to bring down interest rates resulting in declining rate of return on bank deposits as well as National Savings Schemes. Equities offer attractive dividend yield. However, it is difficult for an average person to build and manage its investment portfolio. For the small investors mutual funds can be an attractive proposition. Since mutual funds have a diversified investment portfolio and employ expert asset managers the probability of earning better returns is high.



 

GST ON DRUGS
The government is redrawing the list of essential drugs to add more life-saving drugs into the tax-exempt list. Though the inclusion of 220 new generic drugs will translate into another 9,000 to 10,000 formulas which in addition to some 10,600 six formulas would cover many more drugs than previously as per the sources. However, there is a long term cost as the new Drug Policy waiting approval will offer free registration of drugs in the country.
