Flag hoisting ceremony at MCB main branch I.I. Chundrigar Road, Karachi on Independence Day

A simple and impressive Flag Hoisting Ceremony was held at MCB Main Branch, Karachi. Mr. Mohammed Aftab Manzoor, President, Muslim Commercial Bank hoisted the National Flag. All members of MCB Team sang the National Anthem alongwith the nation.

Intel Itanium™ processors

Intel announced that its Itanium™ family of processors will be used to build a distributed scientific computing system expected to be the largest of its kind in the world. The computing system, dubbed the "TeraGrid," is part of a $53 million award by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to four facilities to address complex scientific research by creating a Distributed Terascale Facility (DTF). The TeraGrid will link computers powered by more than 3,300 Intel® Itanium family processors. It will be capable of more than 13.6 trillion calculations per second (13.6 teraflops) and have the ability to store, access and share more than 450 trillion bytes of information.

KFC & PEPSI joined hands

As a good corporate citizen that is proud of being Pakistani, KFC have embarked on an initiative to support Pakistani music. KFC & PEPSI have therefore joined hands to launch their new campaign from August 1, 2001. In this campaign every outlet of KFC will entertain the consumers with a 'Feast of Meal and Music'. This promotion would be associated with the music theme revolving around Junaid Jamshed.

On the purchase of a "family" or "value" meal, each customer will get a scratch card to win fabulous gifts. The uniqueness of this campaign is that "Everyone's A Winner" at KFC.

Moreover KFC & Pepsi jointly plans to arrange musical concert of Junaid Jamshed in the first week of October in Karachi and in the second week of October in Lahore. Surprise visits of Junaid Jamshed to KFC outlets are also in the plan.

NCR signs NUCES Campuses for data warehousing

Data Warehousing Course to be introduced in NUCES

NCR Corporation has signed an agreement with National University of Computer & Emerging Sciences to introduce data warehousing course at the undergraduate level for their three campuses in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.

This Data Warehousing Program is being started as part of the computer science curriculum and will be subsequently introduced at the higher levels. NCR a world leader in Data Warehousing is committed to transfer of knowledge and technology in Pakistan, with the aim of preparing the IT professionals to meet the challenges of the 21st century and enhance their skill sets at par with the international standards.

NCR has recently launched a University Program on Data Warehousing in Pakistan and includes investments in the form of hardware, software, train the trainer program and development of course materials. The program is aimed at enhancing the knowledge base and skill set in Pakistan. MCB's outstanding performance in banking diploma examination

Muslim Commercial Bank retained its leadership in the banking Diploma Examinations (Summer-2001) for the third consecutive year by securing the highest success rate and by winning the highest number of distinctions.

Out of the 85 successful candidates, 26 candidates belong to MCB and out of the 24 distinctions awarded, 7 distinctions were won by MCB Employees.

Preston University announces 600 scholarships countrywide

Preston University will award 600 Scholarships of varying values to applicants admitted to all Preston's academic programs, based on a formal assessment on merit-cum-need basis. Scholarships valued at 25% admission and tuition fee will also be awarded to the armed forces, journalists, police and government employees and their sons and daughters. The 600 scholarships for Fall Semester/Fall Quarter 2001 are allocated proportionately to the ten campuses of the university located in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Karachi, Hyderabad and Quetta. Applications for Scholarships on prescribed forms along with application for admission must be submitted at the respective campuses on or before August 25, 2001 which is the last date for submission of applications to all programs.

Preston is the only private university in Pakistan that offers more than 2000 scholarships every year to financially assist students in pursuing their academic goals and establish themselves in their professional careers.

First Women Bank Limited

On the directives of the President of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf, First Women Bank Ltd. will be re-engineered and restructured. This was stated by Dr. Attiya Inayatullah Federal Minister for Women Development and Social welfare. She was addressing a high level meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bank in Karachi.

Dr. Ishrat Hussain Governor State Bank of Pakistan while chairing the meeting urged the Bank to enhance the activities of the bank and focus on profitability and Socio-economic objectives in accordance to the charter of the Bank. The Governor directed that two committees will be formed. One Committee for the operational re-engineering of the Bank, Strategy and operational Plan, while the other will review the matters relating to staff. Governor also directed the Bank to assist women entrepreneurs in meeting their commercial needs.

Earlier Ms. Zarine Aziz, President of the Bank made a presentation in connection to the restructuring plan of the Bank. Meeting was attended by the shareholders, President of five leading Banks of the country including Presidents of the two privatized Banks.

P&G's 10-Year celebrations launched

A press conference was held on Saturday, August 04, 2001, to launch 10-Year Celebrations of Procter & Gamble's operations in Pakistan. It was addressed by Hanspeter Heissen, General Manager/Vice President, Procter & Gamble Pakistan as well as other P&G personnel and TV personalities. Relating P&G's success story in Pakistan, Mr. Heissen recounted the numerous milestones of success the company had crossed ever since commencing its operations in Pakistan in 1991.

He thanked the Pakistani consumers for making P&G brands big by choosing them everyday, the media for their continued encouragement and support, the government of Pakistan for lending an open ear on issues and for creating an environment of fair competition, the country's educational institutions for providing excellent talent and the retailers and wholesalers for making P&G brands readily available to the consumers.

"We will continue to seek the support of our friends and partners," he said. "Together we can create a better future for Pakistan". A number of interesting presentations highlighting various aspects of P&G's operations in the Pakistan market were also made on the occasion.

While Tahir Malik, Brand Manager, P&G, described the company's Brand Development activities over the past 10 years, Ghazala Nadeem, Manager Human Resource, detailed how P&G has followed its global core purpose, values and principles with highly fruifful results. Noted TV personalities Anwar Maqsood and Saniya Saeed also shared their greatly rewarding experiences in the promotion of some of P&G's leading brands.

Prof. Dr. Iqbal Memon, Chairman, Pakistan Paediatrics Association, gave his views about the hospital program that the Association is running with P&G's assistance.
