Two New Categories in the Award Recognition Program

NCR Corporation unveiled the details of 3rd NCR National IT Excellence Awards 2001 for recognizing outstanding IT professionals in eight different categories as it calls for nominations from all over the country. The announcement was made by Syed Veqar ul Islam, Country General Manager, NCR Corporation during a press conference at a local hotel.

Speaking on the occasion, Syed Veqar ul Islam said, "We look forward to receiving an encouraging response from all over the country and hope that all the relevant quarters will join in NCR's endeavours to recognize professionals in this particular field and infuse national spirit to the cause of Information Technology."

"Continuing our efforts to promote IT in the country, NCR IT Excellence Awards will go a long way towards promoting the cause of Information Technology in our country and more importantly encouraging professionals to develop deeper association with the country, which recognizes their talents & capabilities in a big way", he added.

The awards will be given in the following eight categories:

1. Software Development 2. Software Export 3. Networking 4. IT Pioneer 5. IT Educationist 6. IT Research & Development 7. IT Youth 8. IT Publication

This year NCR has introduced two new categories, i.e. IT Youth & IT Publication to encourage the youth and the journalists/writers community. Separate criteria have been set up in each category as per the requirements of the industry. The categories have been selected to cover the entire spectrum of IT arena, thus enabling the specialized effort in each category to stand out and be recognized.

The period for consideration for nomination for the awards is June 2000 to July 2001.

The last date for submission of nomination forms is September 5, 2001. The nomination forms along with complete details about the categories and criteria are available at NCR website www.teradata.com.pk or at NCR offices in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. The forms can also be submitted on-line through our website.

The NCR IT Excellence Awards 2001 process is being verified by A.F. Ferguson & Co.; Chartered Accountants, network firm of Pricewaterhouse Coopers. A panel of judges selected for their expertise, experience and acumen will be assessing the nominees for different categories of IT Awards. The results will be announced in November 2001 at the culmination of the evaluation process through NCR IT Excellence Awards Ceremony.

NCR IT Excellence Awards are a novel concept of recognizing people in IT industry at national level who have been instrumental in introducing, promoting and implementing IT in Pakistan. First awards of such kind were launched by NCR in 1997 as part of Pakistan's Golden Jubilee celebrations to recognize professionals in the Information Technology arena at a national level.

In 2000, NCR held the 2nd IT Excellence Awards at the Convention Center Islamabad. NCR has decided to hold this as an annual event and would recognize and acknowledge the achievements of IT pioneers of the past and present. The awards being associated with a company of world repute will go a long way towards increasing the motivation of outstanding individuals in the field of Information Technology.

NCR has played a leading role in the past in spreading the cause of Information Technology in the country. This effort will go a long way towards creating motivation amongst different segments of the society to perform well in this ever growing field.
