To develop and provide professionally trained managers, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan established the Department of Business Administration in December, 1977 and classes for the first batch of MBA started on March 15, 1978. The Department has progressed significantly over the years. The Department has recently attained the status of an Institute and named an Institute of Management Sciences. It is now one of the largest business school of the country with well over 500 students and a permanent faculty of 18 teachers with a large complex providing all possible facilities at one place.

The goal of the Institute is to prepare students for a successful management career. Since its inception, the Institute has endeavored to give its students an education that enables them to face any challenge in their professional life. The Institute has never compromised on quality and standard. Uptill now, more than 700 students have graduated from the Institute who occupy middle and senior management positions in the hierarchy of national and multinational organizations.

Computer Education:

The Institute is first to offer computer education in whole of Southern Punjab. In 1984, a Certificate Course in Computer Applications was offered for the working people in the evening. This course was well received which led to its up-gradation to an advanced Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Programming and Systems Analysis. This programme was later on up-graded to a full-fledged MBA(MIS) degree programme. Uptill now, 6 batches of MBA(MIS) students have completed their degree requirements. The MBA(MIS) programme has been restructed to fulfil the needs of the market in the area of IT and introduced as MBA(IT) programme from the session 2000. A BBA(IT) programme is also being introduced from this year.

MBA(Executive) Programme:

The Institute started another degree programme called MBA(Executive) for the working people in 1996. This Programme provides an ideal opportunity to the working people having some practical experience, to upgrade their knowledge and qualification. Senior executives of different organizations participate in this programme and undergo a new experience of learning.

BBA Programme:

The BBA programme was also started in 1996. The Institute was pioneer in introducing this programme in whole of Punjab. This received excellent response from the students who wanted to adopt business management as their career. The BBA offers a promising choice to students in selection of their career, apart from medical and engineering professions, at the intermediate level. Later on BBA Evening Programme was also introduced to provide this facility to a larger number of students.

Faculty of the department:

The permanent faculty of the Institute consist of 18 teachers with two Professors having Ph.D degrees from reputed foreign Universities. Adjunct faculty members from various Institute of the University as well as experienced member from Business & Industry are also engaged. The teachers are highly committed motivated. Three teachers from the faculty of the faculty of the Institute have gone abroad for higher education.

Facilities:

The Institute has incomparable facilities in terms of class rooms, library and computer lab. and a beautiful air-conditioned Seminar Hall. Its complex consists of large number of well equipped class rooms, with latest furniture and audio visual system. Media show facility is also provided to demonstrate the lectures. A VCR system and a video library containing seminars delivered by experts on various topics of MBA programme, is also available.

Executive Centre:

An Executive Centre has been established in the Institute which provides state of the art facilities to the students. It contains a spacious lecture theatre, a students lounge, kitchen, conference rooms and a 'Business Information Centre', equipped with latest means of information technology and a large reference library. There are more than 8000 books, journals and periodicals relating to various business topics are available in the Departmental Library.

Computer lab.

The Institute also has a modern computer lab. upgraded with latest breed of computers based on "NOVEL" and "UNIX" and AS-400 system with a facility of more than 40 terminals. A new IT lab. is under construction which will provide facility of 26 Pentium-3 computers. All the computers in the Department are connected through a networking system.

Management link:

The Institute has launched an academic journal named "The Management Link" for exchange of ideas and views of business academia with the business practitioners. Three issues of the journal have been published uptill now.

Executive club/executive forum:

Executive Club and Executive Forum are also functioning which represent the students of the Institute. These student's bodies conduct various functions and seminars in the Institute and provide opportunities to their community to participate in academic and co-curricular activities and contribute through their creative ideas.

Alumni:

Zakarian Business Graduates Alumni has been formulated to look after the interests of the Graduates passing out from the Institute and work for the promotion of the institution. The Alumni has more than 600 members who elect an Executive Council and office bearers, every two years. A number of activities like conferences, seminars and social get together are held at the forum. The Alumni also actively participate for the placement of the graduates and make efforts for the financial assistance of the students.
