Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology
has been sponsored by Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys' Association of
Pakistan, Karachi. It was setup through an Ordinance Sindh Ordinance No.
XII of 1993 dated 6th October 1993 and the Charter granted by Governor
of Sindh on 8th October 1993. The Act was passed by the Provincial
Assembly of Sindh on 17th September, 1995 and assented by Governor of
Sindh on 16th October, 1995 and Published in the Gazette as Sir Syed
University of Engineering and Technology, Act 1995 Sindh Act No. X of
1995. It is working as a Center of Excellence and the sponsors are
committed to run this University following the well-known concept of
Aligharh Movement as enunciated by its founder, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.
The Association decided to establish a high class
University of Engineering and Technology as a Center of Excellence
offering instructions of International Standard with integrated
programmes dealing with the fast growing technologies of the world with
courses designed to produce qualified personnel of high caliber
specializing in new technologies needed in developing countries. This
objective is in line with the Government policy of inducting the private
sector for promoting Education in Engineering and Technical subjects at
under-graduate and post-graduate levels.
The strength of Sir Syed University of Engineering
and Technology has steadily increased to the present about 2,500
students and some 120-faculty members. Presently, it is providing
degree-course instruction in four disciplines, namely, (1) Computer
Engineering, (2) Electronic Engineering, (3) Biomedical Engineering, and
(4) Civil Engineering and Masters course in (1) Networks and (2)
Software Engineering (3) Telecommunications.
Realizing the need to invest in and develop the
Information Technology sector in the country, the University has
established a separate division by the name of Software Technology
Innovators (STI), which aims to provide end-to-end software solutions to
local and international businesses. The University has also successfully
launched an ISP by the name of SSUET.NET, for the provision of Internet
and related Services to students and the public. These divisions also
provide hands-on training to students and are part of the SSUET
commitment to develop and promote Information Technology in Pakistan.
Having the distinction of being the first Technical
University in the country in the private sector, Sir Syed University of
Engineering and Technology is a completely self-reliant Institute.
Consistent with the underlying principles of the Aligarh Movement, SSUET
lays special emphasis on quality of education, discipline and the
feeling of brotherhood among the students.
SSUET.NET Internet Service Provider is a division of
Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, based in Karachi,
Pakistan. The services were launched on 14th August 2000 with high speed
Fiber Optics Backbone and large number of PRI lines. Already having the
distinction of being the first private Engineering & Technology
University in the country, SSUET.NET is the first complete ISP setup in
education sector, providing the Internet services to general &
corporate market.
