Mr. Zaigham Mahmood Rizvi appointed M.D. of Pakistan Kuwait Investment Company

Mr. Zaigham Mahmood Rizvi, Managing Director of Pak-Libya Holding Company has assumed the charge of Pakistan Kuwait Investment Company, effective March 19, 2001. Mr. Rizvi has a diversified blend of academic qualifications holding a Master Degree in Business Administration (USA), besides a Masters Degree in Economics and Engineering. Mr. Rizvi has a Diploma from Institute of Bankers Pakistan (Gold Medalist) and has been a Fulbright Scholar USA from 1975-77.

Mr. Rizvi has overall professional experience of 28 years spread over diversified fields of Manufacturing, Academics, Development & Investment Banking both in Pakistan and overseas. He has served with the Oman Development Bank for almost 8 years; his business links with the financial circles of the Arab World is spread over 22 years, providing him with good networking and exposure to financial circles of the Arab World. In Pakistan, Mr. Rizvi has also held senior positions with the Industrial Development Bank of Pakistan & Saudi Pak Industrial & Agricultural Investment Company. During his tenor as Managing Director of Pak-Libya, the company demonstrated substantial improvements in nearly all areas of its operations primarily in terms of diversification of operations, balance sheet size as well as profitability.

Mr. Rizvi has also served on the Board of many Corporate Entities and is presently the SECP nominee Director on the Board of Karachi Stock Exchange. Mr. Rizvi is the Chairman and Founder of the Mutual Fund Association of Pakistan. He is also playing a key developmental role in promotion of the IT Industry in Pakistan, while sponsoring Pakistan's First IT Venture Capital Company, PakVenCap.Com (Pvt.) Ltd. Mr. Rizvi is also serving as the Chairman of the Sub-Committee on IT of Pakistan Bank's Association as well as the Chairman of Editorial Board of "Pakistan Bankers Digest".

One Gigahertz Mobile Pentium III processor

Intel Corporation introduced the mobile PentiumŪ III processor at 1 Gigahertz (GHz) featuring Intel SpeedStepTM technology. The new processor is the world's fastest mobile PC processor and is designed for full size and thin-and-light notebooks, the most popular categories of mobile PCs.

Over 20 new notebooks will be available by leading PC makers including: Acer America Corporation, Compaq Computer Corporation, Dell Computer Corporation, Fujitsu Corporation, Gateway Inc., Hewlett-Packard Company, IBM Corporation, NEC Corporation, Sony Corporation, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. and Windbook Computer Corporation. Intel also introduced the mobile Pentium III processor at 900 MHz with Intel SpeedStep technology and the mobile IntelŪ CeleronTM processor at 750 MHz.

Intel and IBM

Intel Corporation and IBM announced that Intel has selected IBM as the premier provider of embedded software for its IntelŪ Personal Intenet Client Architecture (Intel PCA) for wireless devices and other Internet appliances. The two companies will work together to deliver standards-based hardware and software solutions for next-generation, Internet-ready devices, targeting device manufacturers, application developers and carriers.

Habib Bank AG Zurich: Commemorative postage stamp issued

Pakistan Post Office (PPO) has issued commemorative postage stamp in appreciation of banking achievement of Habib Family.

The stamp of five-rupee denomination is available for sale all over Pakistan from March 20, 2001 on the occasion of opening of "Habib Canadian Bank" (A wholly owned subsidiary of Habib Bank AG Zurich).

Habib Bank AG Zurich is the first Swiss bank in Pakistan with excellent worldwide ranking. Habib Bank AG Zurich is ranked amongst the top 1,000 banks of the world.

The Banker magazine of England has placed Habib Bank AG Zurich, in real profit growth, at 111, among all the banks of the world, with branches all over the world, including six in Pakistan. The renowned Habib Banking Family of Pakistan founded Habib Bank AG Zurich, a Swiss incorporated bank in 1967. The same family founded Habib Bank (Overseas) Ltd., and Habib Bank Ltd., the largest bank which was nationalized in 1974.

National Bank of Pakistan Holds Annual Budget Session

The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) held its budget session at its head office to chart a course for the bank for the next fiscal year.

The session was presided over by Mr. Ali Raza President of the Bank and participated by nine group chiefs and eleven regional heads of the bank.

The meeting discussed at length NBP's new initiatives in administration, operations group capability and enhancement, new treasury products and systems, e-commerce, better utility bills collection, remittances and rationalization of the work force for their more profitable deployment.

Mr. Ali Raza, while addressing the meeting said that NBP is the largest financial institution of the country, the objective is to make it the "bank of choice" "Where the bank wants to enter into the new era of e-commerce and e-banking it has also a strong realisation that it has to build on the trust earned by it through its services to its customers" he added.

He said that the bank's management and its employees were looking ahead to make it a modern, efficient and progressive institution. He also urged the participants of the meeting to improve the level of the services in all sectors of banking.

Gerry's US visa drop box facility

The US Visa Department of Gerry's/FedEx has its ribbon cutting ceremony recently for their re-furbished and improved outlook. The ribbon cutting ceremony was inaugurated by Consular General of American Consulate Mr. John Benette, proudly hosted by Mr. Arshad Hussain General Manager FedEx GSP-Pakistan and Mr. Akram Wali Mohammad Managing Director Gerry's International.

The international francophony day

The International Francophony Day is celebrated every year on March 20, in more than 50 member countries of the Organization Internationale de la Francophonie (International Organization of Francophony), to mark the anniversary of the founding of the Agency for Francophony in 1970, in Niamey.

The French-speaking nations under the aegis of this organisation, currently headed by Mr. Boutros Boutros-Ghali former Secretary-General of the United Nations, are dedicated to coordinate and develop economic, social and cultural projects. They also aspire to adopt a unified position in international Politics and fora as well as to promote a multilingual and multicultural world, which is seen as a way to fight totalitarianism and to reinforce world peace.

To celebrate the occasion in Karachi, French Consul General Gilles Bonnaud hosted a dinner for eminent Pakistani francophone businessmen, artists, journalists and French expatriates. Madam Ghamar Ispahani wife of late M. H Ispahani a close associate of the Quaid-e-Azam was the guest of honour.
