Shell Performance Awards

Special awards for player performance during the Pakistan-England one day series.

For the three one-day international series between Pakistan and England on the 24, 27 and 30 of this month, to be held in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi respectively, Shell Pakistan announces "Shell Performance Awards".

These performance awards will be based on cumulative performance after all the three One Day Internationals and would be awarded after the results are announced by the jury.

The awards include fastest 100 (Rs. 100,000), most wickets (Rs. 100,000), most runs (Rs. 100,000), fastest 50 (Rs. 50,000) and most boundaries (Rs. 50,000).

The results of the first match of this one-day series, held at the National Stadium, Karachi on 24 October, are as follows:

In fastest 50, Abdur Razzak, Andrew Flintoff and G.A. Hick topped the category by scoring the runs off 29, 39 and 47 balls respectively.

The contenders for most boundaries were Andrew Flintoff (6 fours, 3 sixes), Abdur Razzak (5 fours, 3 sixes), Nasir Hussain, (8 fours), followed by Inzamamul Haq (6 fours), Saeed Anwar (4 fours), Salim Ellahi (4 fours) and Graham Thorpe (4 fours).

Meanwhile, Andrew Flintoff (84), Abdur Razzak (75, not out), Nasir Hussain (73), Inzamamul Haq (71) Graham Thorpe (64 not out) and G.A. Hick (56) scored the most runs.

As far as most wickets were concerned, Mark Ealham (2 for 49), C. White (2 for 69), D. Gough (2 for 71) and Abdur Razzak (2 for 71) took the most.

The final award ceremony will be held at the end of the three- one-day series, in Rawalpindi on 30 October, 2000.

Ahmir ud Deen, Managing Director & CEO Allianz EFU

Mr. Ahmir ud Deen assumed the charge of Managing Director and CEO of Allianz EFU Health Insurance Limited in August 2000 and is Allianz AG's representative in Pakistan. Prior to this appointment, he was the Assistant Regional Manager — Health for Allianz in the Asia Pacific Region, based in Singapore.

Ahmir has a Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science from London School of Economics. Before joining Allianz AG he worked in a leading local insurance company in Dubai where he managed the Health Division following a joint venture with PPP Healthcare of the UK.

Ahmir joined Allianz in 1997 and worked in Indonesia for two years, being actively involved in setting up a new health insurance company for Allianz. He then re-located to Allianz's Regional Office in Singapore and worked on various projects around the region including South Korea, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

Allianz EFU Golf Tournament ends with a flourish

The first Allianz EFU Health Insurance Golf Tournamentt concluded on October 29 with a befitting prize distribution ceremony held at the Karachi Golf Club.

The tournament attracted a large number of participants in Professionals, Ladies, Juniors, Veterans, Seniors and Amateurs categories.

The Chief Guest Mr. Saifuddin N. Zoomkawala, Chairman of Allianz EFU gave away prizes to the winners in a ceremony attended by the elite of the city.

The Winners and Runners-up in the different categories were as follows. Professionals: Mr. Javed Inayat and Mr. Amjad Yousuf. Ladies: Mrs. Kim Dae Nam and Mrs. Y.K. Chun. General Pervez Musharraf, Chief Executive of Pakistan is Awarding "Best PRO of Pakistan Presidential Award" on excellence performance in the field of Public Relations to Mr. Shaikh Muhammad Sabir Quadri, Manager Public Relations of Pakistan State Oil, in APNS Annual Award Ceremony held in Karachi.

Mr. Shaikh Sabir Quadri has achieved a number of honour on best performance as Lions Silver Jubilee Public Relations Award in 1995, NCCA Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman Gold Medal in 1997 and PR excellence Award from Public Relations Society of Pakistan in 1998.

Mr. Sabir holds Master Degree in Mass Communication and Economics from University of Karachi. He received a position and a gold medal in Mass Communication. He is also a graduate of Law.

He underwent various professional courses at different reputed institutions and also attended both national and international events concerned with Public Relations and Advertising, including Asian Advertising Congress in "BALI" (Indonesia) and as a delegate to the 2nd National advertising congress which was organized by Pakistan Advertising Association in 1995.

The First Karachi Inter-University Debating contest for award of 'The Qamar Ara Shield' was held on October 28, 2000 at Greenwich University campus. A large number of faculty members, students and their parents from these universities attended this event.

Beaconhouse Silver Jubilee Award Ceremony Held

To commemorate its 25 years of operations, Beaconhouse School System held a Silver Jubilee Long Service Awards Distribution Ceremony to honour the teachers and other staff members for their long association with the school.

The colorful ceremony, part of the Beaconhouse Silver Jubilee Celebrations being held this year, was largely attended by the teachers and staff members of the Beaconhouse Southern Region that included all Beaconhouse branches from Karachi, Hyderabad, Sadiqabad, Rahimyar Khan, Bhawalpur and Quetta. Mrs. Nasreen Kasuri, the Chief Executive of the Beaconhouse School System, as Chief Guest on the occasion, distributed the awards.

Addressing the audience Mrs. Kasuri, stressed upon the importance of human resource development and technology deployment at all levels in the education sector. "This is an era of information technology and we at the Beaconhouse School System, are committed to encouraging our youth in adapting to the Information Age and becoming part of the fast changing global culture". She added that, "We at BSS must aim to produce aware and enlightened citizens who are well prepared for the fast changing world of tomorrow."

Cathay Pacific Airway announced it is now offering wireless Internet access in The Wing, its First and Business Class lounges at Hong Kong International Airport. Passengers now have the freedom to access the Internet from laptop computers or WAP mobile phones anywhere in The Wing without the need for a cable connection. The new services are part of Cathay Pacific's aim to become the leading e-Business airline in Asia.

Passengers can take advantage of the service by using one of the four notebook computers with wireless network cards available in The Wing. They can also install a network card in their own laptop computers to access the Internet. Desktop personal computers with fast broadband Internet access are also available.

Cathay Pacific's e-Business Manager Mary Chan, who helped oversee the project, said: "Our new wireless Internet service means passengers can now stay connected while enjoying all the fantastic services at The Wing. In the Long Bar they can stay online while enjoying delicious hot snacks, or they can settle down with a coffee and browse the web in The Short Bar. Our research shows passengers value the ability to get online at any time, which is why we have worked hard to deliver this service."

First Class Lounge passengers can also now stay connected in The Haven, The Wing's fine-dining restaurant offering an international dinner buffet, and a mouth-watering variety of carving specialties. In The Reading Room, the latest IBM Net Vista x40i desktop computers are also available with Internet access and a range of popular office applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Sony's FD trinitron wega televisions—now assembled in Pakistan

Sony Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd., today (6th November, 2000) announced the introduction of Sony's FD Trinitron WEGA range of colour television models that are assembled in Pakistan. FD Trinitron WEGA is the standard among flat screen televisions and has been made possible by Sony's proprietary FD Trinitron picture tube technology. This truly flat screen TV offers images that are of minimal reflection and distortion, giving the viewer maximum picture quality. The new models are available in 21-inch, 25-inch and 29-inch screen sizes and bear the model numbers KV-XG21M80, KV-XG25M81, and KV-XG29M81 respectively.

Sony adopts the same quality control procedures and manufacturing practices in the factory in Hattar Industrial Estate, Haripur, as it does in all its manufacturing facilities in other countries, including Japan. Sony's colour television manufacturing facility occupies 50,000 sq. ft. of space and employs 150 local personnel.

High-technology machines are used for inserting chip components and advanced computers for picture quality control.
