The story of NIT

National Investment Trust (NIT) mainly invests in listed equities. It suffered from low unit price in the recent past due to persistent bearish sentiments prevailing in equities market. The restructuring programme has started yielding results but the efforts continue to further improve the net asset value, dividend income and capital gains.

The Provincial Governments of Balochistan and Punjab have purchased polypropylene bags for the storage of wheat grains. Pakistan Jute Mills Association has however expressed its concern that PP bags contain toxic and carcinogenic substances released into the environment, their use for storage of wheat has been strictly opposed by the scientists of PCSIR laboratories. The use of polypropylene bags for storage of wheat is banned in Germany and other European countries.

The growth in electricity consumption has declined drastically during the last decade primarily due to substantial increase in prices. What is even more disturbing is the fact that more electricity is used today for unproductive household use rather than in the productive industrial sector. The imposition of 15 per cent sales tax early this year and a cash security scheme introduced by the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation is feared to lessen industrial output further.
