A Pakistani games development company Mindstorm Studio has developed an official game for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 that kicked off with a gala opening ceremony in Dhaka (Bangladesh) on Thursday last.
The game "Cricket Power" (www.cricketpower.com) is featuring all 14 official teams along with official players, stadiums, and kits. The game is powered by a superior cricket engine at its core, coupled with a pick-up-and-play interface to appeal to casual and core gamers alike.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Company Babar Ahmed told Page in Lahore that cricket has long been a subject closely linked to our organization and we are thrilled to take it to the next level. He said the Mindstorm Studios is a young startup company from Pakistan.
According to him, all the software professionals, coders, designers and the management are Pakistanis. It has received no outside funding. The team is self-taught. It has managed to cross all hurdles, conquer all challenges and emerge as a champion. The company has managed to indigenously design, develop, and deliver an officially licensed title over all leading global game development games.
Highlighting the salient features of the game, Babar Ahmed said the selection of his company for designing the official game for the ICC World Cup was a rare honour and provided not just them but the entire nation a moment of pride. He said his company was also proud and excited to be the architect of the official site for ICC's World Cup.

Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) Managing Director Zia Imran told this scribe that PSEB is facilitating different animation companies to attract foreign exchange through export of video games.
According to him, Pakistan has potential of fetching precious forex of one billion dollar every year through promotion of animation industry (video games industry) that is a full-fledged entertainment industry world over having export potential of US$ 70 billion.
Mr. Zia Imran termed the selection of Pakistani IT firm (Mindstorm Studios) for the "Official Game" of the ICC World Cup as a unique honour for the country. "The selection of a Pakistani IT firm for designing the official game of the World Cup is a huge honour for the country besides being a pointer towards the strength of the IT industry in Pakistan.
He further said that Pakistani IT industry had a huge potential in IT applications and the industry was sure to go places because of the broad support provided by the PSEB through its programs successfully catering to the needs of human capital, office space, marketing company capability development, telecom bandwidth, industry finance, public policy, strategy and research and facilitation.
He further said that Pakistani IT companies had penetrated the international market on the back of high quality services and competitive products and the selection of the Pakistani industry for designating the official game of the ICC World Cup was a reflection on the immense talent and potential for innovation possessed by our IT professionals.
According to him, global gamming industry has seen a meteoric rise over the past several years. The world market for gamming software is expected to be worth approximately $91.96 billion by 2015 as per various credible estimates. The video game industry in the US and Canada alone will reach $21.6 billion in sales by 2013. The US gaming industry is expected to be over three times the size of recorded music industry. In the gaming market, mobile and online gaming segments are expected to grow significantly. In view of the stellar growth statistics of the gaming industry, it is pertinent to take steps to bolster the local gaming industry.
It may be noted that the animation gaming industry of Pakistan is characterized by young, energetic entrepreneurial individuals and continues to win laurels abroad due to their high quality, high impact work.
