VIVO to bring two midrange V11 versions in Pakistan:

Vivo, a global technology company has just announced that it will be launching two new mid-range flagship devices in Pakistan, namely the Vivo V11 and V11 Pro this month in Lahore. The teaser also revealed that Aamir Khan will be endorsing the new phones for the South Asian region. The new members of the V series sport a more futuristic display design, and adopt AI across the board, including AI photography features and personal services.

Canon unveils EOS-R full frame mirrorless camera:

Sony’s recent venture into the mirrorless camera market hasn’t gone unnoticed. In fact, Nikon released its Z6 and Z7 in response to them. This time, Canon is also coming in with its own answer, the EOS-R. A video focused full frame mirrorless camera. Canon’s mirrorless shooter slots in nicely between Sony’s A7 III and A7R III and the previously mentioned Nikon cameras in terms of resolution, coming in at 30.3 megapixels.

Google launches new search experience for job seekers in Pakistan:

Google has unveiled a new search experience making it easier for job seekers in the region to find employment opportunities from popular job listing websites, online classifieds and companies. The new feature is built directly into Google Search to provide a comprehensive listing of jobs across the web. At launch, job search will have hundreds of thousands of job listings from thousands of sites, including Mustakbil.com, PaperPK.com, Bikroy.com, Ikman.lk and Xpressjobs.lk.

Huawei CEO wants smartwatches with week-long batteries:

We are just a month away from the final quarter of 2018, yet it is quite disheartening to see almost none of the major smartwatches coming with an adequate battery life. If rumors are to be believed, Huawei might take it upon itself to buck this trend with its latest smartwatch. In an interview given at IFA 2018, Huawei CEO Richard Yu believed that the company’s smartwatches need some work in order to be truly innovative.

Samsung might launch a phone with 4 rear cameras this year:

The company already makes devices including some pretty attractively-priced fitness trackers & smartwatches.

Connected Pakistan conference to take place in Islamabad next week:

Pakistan is said to have a predominantly youthful population. We all hear every now and then that the youth will be a catalyst for change in this country full of problems but nobody has shown the real path or identified a crystal clear plan. There’s a glimmer of hope for the youth, thanks to Connected Pakistan who is again taken an initiative to hold third conference in Islamabad this week. You might have all have heard the name of this emerging company.

The waterslide with virtual reality:

Germany’s Therme Erding water park is offering virtual reality (VR) headsets to riders of its waterslides. The VR can transform the ride into one through snowy mountains or outer space.

Facebook, twitter ‘too slow’ to tackle meddling:

Facebook and Twitter have said that they took too long to tackle foreign campaigns to meddle in US elections. Responding to lawmakers, Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg said the social network was “too slow” to act on election interference. Twitter’s chief executive Jack Dorsey said his platform was “unprepared and ill-equipped” for the “weaponisation” of debate.

Theranos -scandal hit blood-testing firm to shut:

Scandal-hit US blood-testing start-up Theranos is to formally dissolve, the firm’s chief executive David Taylor has told shareholders in an email. Mr Taylor said Theranos had run “out of time” to secure further investment or secure a buyer for its assets. Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and former president Ramesh Balwani are facing criminal charges of wire fraud.

Samsung now for folding smartphones:

Samsung’s head of mobile has said it is “time to deliver” foldable smartphones, fuelling speculation the company is about to reveal a bendable device. In an interview with CNBC, DJ Koh said Samsung’s consumer research suggested there was demand for a foldable phone. Several phone-makers are rumoured to be developing devices with flexible screens that can be folded in half, without a hinge or seam in the middle.

Urban wind turbine wins UK James Dyson award:

A turbine that can capture wind from any direction has won the UK’s 2018 James Dyson Award. The O-Wind Turbine aims to capture inner-city wind and turn it into electricity in cities struggling to produce enough renewable energy for increasing populations. The portable, low-cost device can be attached to the sides of buildings. The two inventors said they hoped the energy produced could be plugged into the home or the electricity grid.

Crime-hit mobike suspends Manchester sharing scheme:

Bike sharing firm Mobike is to pull out of Manchester after losing 10 percent of its cycles each month to theft and vandalism. The Chinese firm said too many had been stolen, dumped in canals and bins, had locks hacked off or been set on fire. Manchester has become the only city among 200 worldwide to lose the service because of persistent crime.

Google bosses expected to snub senate:

When Silicon Valley companies once again appear in front of the US Senate, there will be one major absentee: Google. The Senate Intelligence Committee wanted to hear from Sundar Pichai, Google’s chief executive, or his boss Larry Page, the chief executive of Google’s parent firm, Alphabet.

Amazon’s market value tops $ one trillion:

Amazon has briefly become the second US-listed firm to have a market value of more than $1 trillion (£779bn). Shares in the e-commerce giant rose nearly 2 percent to a high of $2,050.50 before slipping back last week. Apple reached the same milestone in early August.

First look at Xiaomi mi mix 3’s camera slider:

Even though it was all but confirmed by Xiaomi’s VP last week, we hardly know any details regarding the upcoming Mi Mix 3 phone (other than the vaunted slider, of course). Now, a supposed leaked video sheds light on how Mi Mix 3’s slider works. For one, the phone will be unique in that it comes with a manual sliding mechanism à la Nokia sliding phones from years gone and not a small, separate module like the Oppo Find X or the Vivo NEX.

Apple watch was the best selling wearable in Q2 2018:

With the launch of the next Apple Watch (Series 4) apparently coming closer, it is good to look back and see how far the wearable has come in terms of market dominance. According to a recent IDC report, the Apple Watch was the best-selling wearable in the market, with 4.7 million shipments during Q2 2018 alone, helping Apple earn 17% of the market.
