Careem officially launches bike service in Rawalpindi:

The Careem Bike that can be seen on the app with the icon of a motor bike, is reasonably priced and is ideal for quick trips. Digiconnect conference gets cancelled due to security reasons:

DigiConnect Conference, that was scheduled for tomorrow in Karachi, has been cancelled due to security reasons, we can confirm. In a message posted on official website, the organizers said: “It is with the deepest regret that we have to inform you that our digi connect influencer marketing conference which was to be held on Saturday, December 09, 2017 has been cancelled”

Pakistan and Iran sign a currency swap agreement:

Pakistan and Iran have signed a currency swap agreement to enhance bilateral trade, said Mehdi Honardoost, Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan.This agreement will open up channels in the central banks of both countries for trade transactions to reduce the usage of dollar account for Letter of Credit (LC) clearance. The arrangement is being carried out in addition to setting up a banking channel between the two countries by the two central banks.

Haroon Askari removed as CEO PSX:

According to a recent notice to the bourse, Haroon Askari has been removed as the Chief Executive Officer at Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), after Securities and Exchange Commission (SECP) advised the exchange to do so. PSX had extended Askari’s tenure for a month which was set to expire on October 30th. PSX has started the process of appointing an Acting CEO to replace him.

3g/4g auction in Ajk & delayed as PTA becomes dysfunctional:

The process for Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) 3G/4G spectrum in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) has come to a halt as Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has become dysfunctional till the appointment of a new Chairman and Member Finance. Official sources revealed that there are little or no chances of 3G/4G auction in the near future.

Ufone supports Pakistan’s biggest taekwondo championship:

As part of a continuous endeavor to promote sports, Ufone is supporting the Pakistan Taekwondo Federation in organizing a championship from December 8 to 13, 2017 at Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Board, Islamabad. This is the first Taekwondo Event which will feature Senior, Under 17, Under 14 and 5-10 Years children categories. Approximately 1300 officials and athletes will be participating in the event.

SBP announces time saving incentive for exporters:

In the wake of successful implementation of Electronic Form-E (EFE) module in WeBOC, the central bank allowed exporters to directly dispatch shipping documents to the consignees or their agents in the country of final destination. This facility shall be extended only to those exporters who have export performance of at least 3 years with a minimum total export realization equivalent to USD 1 million.

Dawood lawrencepur invests Rs 280 million in Reon Energy Ltd via right shares:

In a recent stock filing, Dawood Lawrencepur Limited revealed that (DLL) the company’s Board of Directors have approved investment of Rs. 280 million by subscription of 28,000,000 Right Shares of Reon Energy Limited at par value of Rs. 10 each. It was decided in a board meeting held on December 8th, 2017. Reon Energy Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dawood Lawrencepur Limited.

AMD Ryzen 2 set for March 2018 launch- 12c/24t at up to 5.1ghz:

Apple ‘to buy Shazam for $400m’:

Apple is close to buying the music recognition app Shazam for about $400m (£300m), media reports say. Shazam, a UK company founded in 1999, allows people to use their smartphone or computer to identify and buy music through a snippet of sound. Shazam, which says it has more than 100 million monthly users, makes most of its revenue from commissions paid on referrals to Apple’s iTunes Store.

Apple homekit flaw left smart gadgets vulnerable:

Apple has fixed a security flaw in its HomeKit system that could have let unauthorised people control smart home gadgets such as door locks and lights. The bug appeared in the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system iOS 11.2, and could have let criminals unlock internet-connected doors. A researcher disclosed the problem to tech news site 9to5Mac.

Spotify and tencent music buy stake in each other:

Two of the world’s most popular online music streaming services are buying shares in one another. Spotify and China’s Tencent Music Entertainment will buy minority stakes in each other, the companies have said. Neither the value of the deal nor the new shareholding sizes were disclosed, but reports have suggested they will both be taking a 10% stake.

NI town ‘has UK’s fastest runners’:

A town in Northern Ireland with a population of just 21,000 has the fastest runners in the UK, according to data collected by a fitness app. Strava’s annual report showed the average speed of athletes using the GPS mapping app in Omagh, County Tyrone, was 5.03 min/km. Omagh’s athletes ran away with the title, beating those in London by two seconds. Next, came NI once again with runners in Banbridge, County Down third.

Apple Shazam: Why is the US company buying the music app?:

Apple’s smart assistant, Siri, already taps into Shazam, allowing users to verbally ask: “What song is playing?” and has done so for more than three years. But with growing competition between Apple Music and Spotify – which also ties into Shazam – Apple may have felt the need to secure the service rather than risk its Swedish rival or some other company buying it first.

HP laptops found to have hidden keylogger:

Hidden software that can record every letter typed on a computer keyboard has been discovered pre-installed on hundreds of HP laptop models. Security researcher Michael Myng found the keylogging code in software drivers preinstalled on HP laptops to make the keyboard work.
