PTA INVITED APPLICATION FROM INTERESTED IN ESTABLISHING AN ELECTRONIC PLATTFORM:

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority ( PTA ) has invited application from participants interested in establishing an electronic platform that would enable mobile bank account holders to conduct financial transactions across the country.

MOIT HAS PREPARED A SPECIAL PACKAGE FOR IT SECTOR COVERING ENHANCEMENT IN EXISTING INCENTIVES, RATIONALIZATION OD DUTIES/ TAXES:

Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom ( MoIT) has prepared a special package for IT sector covering enhancement in existing incentives, rationalization of duties/taxes and simplification of tax regime envisaging to promote local assembly/manufacturing of IT hardware and double software exports, it is learnt.

PAKISTAN WOULD BE THE FIRST COUNTRY IN SOUTH ASIA TO TEST 5G IN CELLULAR SERVICES:

Minister of State for Information Technology Anusha Rehman said Pakistan would be the first country in South Asia to test 5th generation cellular services for fast connectivity. Speaking at the Information Communication Technology (ICT) awards ceremony, organised by the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), Ms Rehman said: “Pakistan recently won the GSMA award and ranked third in the list of mobile telecom operator groups.”

Uber has said claims it used self-driving technology stolen from Google were “demonstrably false”. Waymo – a company spun out of Google – filed a lawsuit in February claiming former employee Andrew Levandowski had stolen 14,000 documents relating to LiDAR, a core technology used to guide autonomous vehicles.

A new app lets people explore UK airspace in 3D and see hundreds of planes flying in almost real-time. Airspace Explorer is based on software used by air traffic controllers at the company NATS, although some planes are hidden from view.

GOOGLE’S AL SEEKS FURTHER GO GLORY:

Google has challenged China’s top Go player to a series of games against its artificial intelligence technology. It said the software would play a best-of-three match against Ke Jie, among other games against humans in the eastern Chinese city of Wuzhen from 23-27 April.

‘NSA MALWARE’ RELEASED BY SHADOW BROKERS HACKER GROUP:

The “Shadow Brokers” hacker group has released malware allegedly created by the US National Security Agency (NSA). The group, which earlier tried to sell the encrypted cache of hacking tools in an online auction, released a password for it via a blog on 8 April.

AL WINS $290,000 IN CHINESE POKER COMPETITION:

An artificial intelligence program has beaten a team of six poker players at a series of exhibition matches in China. The AI system, called Lengpudashi, won a landslide victory and $290,000 (£230,000) in the five-day competition.

IMAX REVEALS EUROPEAN CINEMA EXPANSION PLAN:

Imax has struck a deal to more than double the number of its large screens in European cinemas run by the continent’s biggest operator. AMC – which owns Odeon among other brands – plans to create 25 new Imax theatres over the next three years, about 10 of which will be in the UK.
